1300 GS Suspension and Adaptive Ride Height Errors

Back to the original thread. My auto-lowering suspension issue last autumn was resolved by Pidcocks and all has been fine until 18th March when I got the same 3 error screens on the TFT (see attached images). Bike booked into Wollaston on Monday 7th April. As this is the 2nd time of happening, my confidence in the bike has been reduced again. After many years of 1150/1200/1250 ownership with few issues, for the suspension issue to happen again is a little concerning. Anyhoo, must keep things in perspective and all new technology has some teething issues. I changed from the 1250 to the 1300 specifically for the lowering ride height at lower speeds and when stationary to help me and my pillion when getting on/off the bike - future proofing our adventures for the next 10 years or so.

BMW customer service kindly agreed to my request for a 3 years service plan as compensation last time, so let's see what they find on this occaision.

Have any other riders had multiple failures of the auto-lowering function?

I'll keep you updated.

An update - Wollaston in Northampton had the bike all day and did a thorough check and identified a software update was required. Fault no longer present, so for the time being I'm happy again.

Had my 5 week old 1300gs in dealer last Monday for software update to try cure ASA issues
Made big improvements after update until today was out on bike and had those 3 ride height messages come up on dash and ASA issues seem to be back as well
Messages disappeared after switching off engine but returned 3more times over 200kms spin
Going to dealer with it tomorrow
Getting a bit pissed off now
Kind of sorry I traded up

Hi there, when I originally had this issue back in August/September, it was resolved by a suspension recalibration. I was referred to BMW customer services as after owning BMW's since the mid 80's, I've been lucky enough not to have any serious issues. I requested a 3 year service plan as a goodwill gesture for my inconvenience which I was happy about. So, my advice is to speak to customer services and factually list what has gone wrong, why you are unhappy about it and what you'd like as a goodwill gesture.

Cheers
Tony

Evening all. R1300GSA TE Dec 24 delivery. Had run in service done at 500 - now at 1300 miles.
I’m on my way down to a BMW Offroad Course in Wales and have just had the three failures, flash up many many times after riding for three hours. so stuck on high height , no damping so rough ride and no load balancing. Plus heated grips stopped working and electric screen warning failure flashed up just to add insult to injury……Lol.
Tried switching on and off and a reset but no joy. Just parked it up at the hotel and will deal with it tomoz as I’m cold and wet.

I went to Scotland on Sunday for the day. Fuelled up at 6am, switched the bike on and got the x3 adaptive error messages after 100m. Pulled in and switched off on and it cleared. Fuelled up later in the day and had exactly the same. Noting this is the replacement bike after my first one suffered multiple electrical issues, if it fails again im done with BMW.

May 14th. Picked the bike at the dealership. (they had it for more than 10 days) said they updated the software. (it has the same number as when I left it as I took pictures) but I though may be erase and load again same version will do the trick. Rode home 5 miles and half way same error messages.
I am ready to sell the bike.......or get a 1250

Got bike back from dealership finally after 3 weeks with them they did software update plus they changed fluid in pump
done 600kms since and no issues
Hopefully it’s sorted now

No further issues for me since April 8th when the software was updated /suspension recalibrated. After discussion with BMW customer service, they agreed to extend my 3 year warranty/breakdown for a further year free of charge.

Sad to report - the Ride Height Error message has re-appeared today on my bike.
I've done about 500 miles since the error message was cleared at the beginning of May; when it was sorted during a 12 month service and full software update at Vertu Exeter.

I've had loads of GS's over the years and I've no doubt this is the best in so many ways - but this is now starting to piss me off somewhat.

Did u try starting as soon as the screen lit up? Rather than any pause

I tried it both ways it had the error regardless.

I'm sure this has to be an electronic glitch rather than a physical problem.

In my case this only started happening after fitting some extras - Lone Rider lights and a Healtech Eliminator switch.
Can't help but wonder if there's some conflict in the boot up log so allowing it to run full or not allowing it may have some influence.

Although I know others have had this on almost new and stock bikes so seems unlikely.

dealer has told me it's a combination of lithium that sees an immediate dip in voltage when turned on, and that the software see's the dip and 'switches' off the adaptive functions until the battery is recharged thru running hence the signal dissappears when switch on and back on.

Last year I did a 3500 Mile trip to Norway riding for 6 to 7 hrs a day, the warning lights reguarly came on after setting off on a morning and riding for approx 2 hrs.It took 3 attempts by the dealer to fix all software.Ive only done 600 miles since it was fixed last September with no issues yet. Pyrenees in 3 weeks so that will be a good test to see if it's permanently sorted.
This problem really should not be raising its head nearly 2 years after release!!

Agree - I'm doing the Norway run in July so really want this sorted before that.
You can as you have experienced ride the bike without issues but it just doesn't feel right to not be able to get this resolved.
