1300 GS Top box recall

I have a new 1300, bought in Canada, riding in US. The dealer wouldn't let me take the top box because "the factory have recalled it". So now I am touring with a stupid blue bag strapped to the back of my otherwise super-cool 1300. I mean, wtf? The dealer has no info on the fix date. Anybody else got this problem?

No info from my dealer on a recall that he's aware of (I just checked).
Going there on Thursday, so I'll check again.

Where did you buy the 1300?
I’ve been told about the problem by dealers in Kelowna Canada and Portland Oregon. Neither dealer will let me buy the top box.

I think there’s a problem with the winding mechanism that expands the boxes, I think there’s a modification/fix being done but I don’t know if it’s a retrofit or just on newly manufactured boxes

I presume it effects top box and panniers, it seems they are fairly unavailable all over Europe

I’ve asked around US dealers and they say there is no SW Moto or Givi alternative yet available in US.
Are there other options available?

I have been using mine with bmw top box since November and have adjusted the top box size many times with no problems at all. When fully extended it holds a full face helmet easily. Have been to dealer a number of times and had first service and heard nothing from dealer regarding a recall.

Check out this thread, you could get a Givi plate from Europe and use a top box sourced locally

Top box Adapter Plate

Hi All Taken delivery of R1300 GS Triple Black. Had to source engine bats from SW Motec and a few other bits and bobs BUT currently there seems no option for a top-box adapter plate to allow me to fit the Givi box I have used on my 3 previous GS. I have the 2x BMW side panniers so the options...

TMF, like others on here, have wondered whether the vario adjuster/winder will stand the test of time, but this is a separate issue.

Wow! Some of you guys are good at this stuff! You got the recall description before any of the dealers I spoke to knew it!
Now that the vario side cases are on recall as well, I am ordering up a complete set of Touratech luggage to be fitted asap. Of course there will be hundreds of other 1300 owners trying to get hold of the same Touratech kit ….

Got the touratech boxes on mine, they’re an improved version of what I used for the last 8years on my 1200

I love them
