Here is a link to the video that I mentioned earlier. See the second comment on the video where Optimate confirms that the CAN-bus has nothing to do with charging or the accessory port.

Have you watched the video yourself. It says that it can charge via the can-bus. It doesn't mention can-bus having nothing to do with charging, just the opposite.
Stop going on about it.

Read my post. The Optimate admission is in the COMMENTS on the video. A viewer points out the error in the video and Optimate concedes that the video is incorrect.
 
Why does a Lithium battery require a dedicated Lithium compatible battery charger?
The charging system (alternator and reg/rec) on the bike is the same for whaterver battery is fitted whether it be lead-acid, Lithium or whatever else you care to fit and it doesn`t know what battery type is fitted.

Lithium batteries have different charge & float voltage requirements.
 
Also when coded for a lithium battery the bike's XCCP Domain Controller knows that it can communicate with the lithium battery's battery management system. If you just toss in an AGM then the XCCP cannot communicate with it and an error results. You need to recode to AGM.
 
Nout wrong with Lithium batteries as long as you treat them correctly.


One of our lads destroyed his by jumping his bike from his truck. Have you seen how much BMW charge for a 1300 Lithium battery !! SIX HUNDRED POUNDS.
 
As per this video, I have no means of charging in my garage and really don’t want the hassle of a lithium battery so contacted my dealer and is going to fit a lead/acid battery before my new bike is delivered in 2 weeks

I've asked what battery mine is coming with, I assume its the Lithium. So, If its very expansive, And I get mine delivered with standard, There should be a reduction in price. I also asked how much truth there is in the claim BMW are dropping the Lithium altogether ?
All that said. I'm more than happy to keep the Lithium, if it does come with that. :thumb
 
It was confirmed to me today, that BMW have now switched to std batteries on the R1300GS/A. The reason claimed, Is shortage of supplies. So its now a Paid "Upgrade"
 
back to this one and a question. Can those that have purchased a black one (top of the first page) send me a link. I cant seem to be able to find one to buy, they are all the smaller bullet shaped ones. In addition I have one of the original white / grey ones for my old 2016 GS which i used on my 2021 1250 GSA. I think its duff as my GSA battery was dead after just 4 years.
I don't think the white one works on lithium that's why the new one is called a charger ''plus'' - right?
