1300gs TE ASA Insurance- No Quotes !

This may be the issue here ?

The full value of my bike purchase isnt the value of the bike.
As I've explained, ive bought full luggage, new sports exhaust, which has considerably increased that cost. The insurance company wouldn't pay out for all that ? Just the cost of a replacement bike ?
Those cost, with the VAT is considerable.
Sorry to jump in here, but whenever I've insured a new bike I have always declared all the extras and stated the invoice price, including any extras, even if bought elsewhere, as the full value of the bike. I do this knowing that if the bike is a total loss in the first year (or six months on some policies) that the insurance would pay this figure, minus the excess, or replace the bike like for like.

In 2006 I had a brand-new K1200S. When it was only 4 weeks old, with only 1,000 miles on the clock, a white van man took me out, and the bike was written off. As I wasn't going to be able to ride a bike for at least a year (due to follow-up operations) it was agreed that I would be paid the full invoice price of the bike, including extras. All this was settled within 4 weeks of me leaving hospital. I would never declare a price less than what I had paid in full for any new vehicle I bought.

After the first year, I trawl round vendors of the particular brand, looking for models of the same age and mileage and use a value slightly above the average of all I find, plus a bit extra for any extras, to declare to the insurers.

Good advice (y)

I had a similar experience when I placed the order for my 1st GS in 2015. The price on the configurator was below £15k and I got prices based on that from the comparison sites. When the bike arrived I added the cost of the vario luggage I'd bought separately from Germany plus a few non factory extras (the usual stuff) which then pushed the total over £15k. Many insurers then wouldn't quote and those that did upped the price significantly. I ended up taking out one of the policies with the new revised higher value rather than risk the possibility of them refusing to pay out because I'd under valued it if things went Pete Tong. I'm a risk averse type but
each to their own 👍

Who do you use to insure? You sound like you have the same experience as me but I have only a few years NCD as I am a blow in. My Insurance is always ridiculous like yours but with a bit more on top and I only bought the last 1250 GSA
Sorry for the delay in replying ..... I only just noticed your question.
It's Motorcycle Direct, underwritten by Highway Insurance Co.

If they include in the policy for the first 12 months, a new for old clause in the event of a total loss - then as long as the accessories were on the invoice and those were also declared as fitted, to the insurance company at the outset of the contract (or shortly after) then the whole she-bang will be covered

I had a customer about 10 years ago who swerved to avoid a deer one morning and crashed his 6 month old RR Vogue that cost £100,000 ..........into a tree and wrote it off
Now, a 6 month old RR Vogue at the time, with similar miles etc could be bought from a main dealer for about £70,000
The insurers paid him £100k, his original invoice price and he went out and bought a 6 month old RR Vogue, from a main dealer to replace it, for £68000
So, the insurer paid out what was in his contract - £100k cash or a brand new RR Vogue
He took the cash option
If he had under declared his new RR Vogue at purchase, at say £80,000 to obtain a cheaper annual insurance contract price, then he'd have been fraudulent and potentially done himself out of £100,000
True story
Just pointing out the facts and folly in not acting in utmost good faith when buying insurance
I agree with your comment.
I will point out the irony of using "in good faith" when talking about dealing with an insurance company.....

Has anybody got a quote for an ASA bike?

I just picked up my new 1300 GSA TE ASA and had no problems getting a quote on comparison sites. Ended up going with Bennetts even though slightly more expensive than lowest quote.

Anyone who deliberately under declares the reinstatement value of their vehicle and all the accessories fitted to it - under a conventional motor policy - is, at best, being less than honest when it comes to declaring a material fact. The chances of being caught out and dealing with the possible consequences? Low to very low…. But so is shoplifting.

Me? I don’t give a fuck what anyone does.

PS You can be sure the bod will know the ‘value’ of the bike / vehicle when they come to sell it on to the next punter. Be sure to watch the private adverts on these pages, when they come to palm it on.

Oh thank you so much for your worldly, humbling all greatness advice. Thank you.
Thank you.

Not quite sure what you are on about??.
What has the bit about the "bod" knowing the value of the bike when they come to sell it on got to do with insurance quotes???. And "watching the private adverts on these pages when they come to palm it on" ??.

Wouldn't give his comments the time of day. I doubt he even knows what he is on about. He posts because he feels the need to.

I think what he is implying is when selling on here the bikes price will be higher than the lower insurance value
To take account of extas etc

Lowest was £727 with no extras. went with Bennett’s with everything covered - legal expenses, helmet, leathers, personal accident etc £836 all in. Not bad considering I got 6 points for being a naughty boy in my car last year!!. Prices after this were ridiculously expensive..

I currently ride a 1250GSA 2019, insurance, fully comp, is £178. I have bought a 1300GSA TE ASA, delivery 1st March. I have been looking at insurance quotes, the cheapest I have found so far is £673!! with Bennetts, £495!!! more than my current insurance! It's a piss take!

we dont know the typical repair costs though? Dealer labour rates are what about £100 per hour? Your current bike is 6 years old so presumably much lower replacement cost. Insuring a 20k plus product that can be wheeled into a van is never going to be cheap. Its also got more power than the outgoing bike. You're paying less than me, mine was over £900 a year ago.

Its ASA, cant be wheeled i to a van !

I know. Had a multi bike policy on a 22 plate tiger 900 gt pro and 24 plate triumph bobber 1200. Cost for both £160. Big increase for one bike but it is what it is. The points no doubt didn’t help..
