1300RT…..

It's all personal, one's man's meat etc. I like the 1250 looks. Even if I didn't I couldn't justify the jump in cost for something which probably won't tour in any better comfort and which already has plentiful performance.

I wonder if it has more leg room for the rider than the 1250 ?
Some jolly expensive looking adjustable footpads and pedal sets on the Motorrad site, but unpriced as yet. The seat height adjustments were good on the test ride though - and screen was much better than my 1200 wc. I really liked it. 23500 buys you everything you need unless you just need to impress your mates in the Cafe

Adjustable pegs are 507 euros

Sat on one today.
Was very surprised how heavy it was to heave off the side stand .
And it all looks very bloated from the rider view

I don’t remember the 1300GS sounding this dreadful .
Sounds like my knackered old 2CV I had when I was skint and doing flying training .

And what the fuck are those wally flaps that you move by hand and do fuck all , according to TMF ?

So apart from the styling , rattly engine , dreadful switchgear , non user friendly panniers , uncomfortable for both rider and pillion , heavy to lug around and the stupid price …..it’s a great bike 😀

What color have you ordered?
What the fuck are BMW doing ? First they remove some ‘GS-ness’ from the 1300GS and now they produce a tourer that can’t tour . And as for those wally flaps, did someone add them for a bet ? 🤮

Personally I think it looks great, the old model was too bulbous for my tastes

TMF is a technical numpty, if he read the manual he’d maybe be able to use the switch gear, it’s not difficult (yes, I know you shouldn’t need to really) :drool

The thing that’s always baffled me about RTs is the lack of leg room, they’re just too cramped to be comfortable and this new one doesn’t seem to be any better :nenau

But the switchgear on 1300s is overly complicated. The fact it’s not backlit on a near £30k bike is ridiculous.
Can’t see the bike being a big seller , especially having read of a few stability issues with at least one returning his bike and rejecting it as it was dangerously unstable at speed !

Agreed. Riding on the laurels of previous models. The lack of sales I think is telling if you check out what some dealers are offering part-x for 1250RT's. I was offered £10K for mine against a ducati, mine being a 2019 model Le. The dealer showed me the trader trade in jump in used values of the 1250's which has jumped a lot in the past two months. His opinion was that the 1250 is now in more demand since the 1300 was released and reviews like TMF's are a clue as to why.

I’ve just traded my Triumph Tiger Rally Pro for the R1250GSA and the salesman was saying similar things re the R1300GSA. The later 1250s seem to be in great demand. I prefer the look of the 1250GSA over the 1300.

What is the hangup with backlit switches ffs??

If your looking at switches, your not looking at the road ....

Yet virtually every review of such bikes slate the lack of backlit switchgear , especially when it’s quite a complicated layout.

We can’t all be riding gods like you 🤡

It depends how stumpy you are.......I'm 5'9 a relative hobbit in GS land with a 31 inch inseam and found my 2014 R1200RTLC very comfortable. More so than my Africa Twin particularly its seat (which some people change on the RT as they find it uncomfortable). I do a lot of single track roads with grass growing up the middle so the RT isn't particularly well suited to that type of road. I don't like the looks of the New RT and prefer the previous 1200/1250. The R1300GS looks ok in a bland sort of way and the GSA (in my eyes) is a complete disaster. I think they must be using some of the design team from the car division!! BMW cars are awful looking at the moment. To appeal to the far eastern market apparently??

My old R1150GS looks positively handsome :D

That obviously was terrifying for the owner. I've heard one other bloke, who took one out from Cotswold, say something along similar lines, that aerodynamically, he found it concerning. Nearest to that I came was riding a 1600GT. I stopped after a short M-Way blast to check tyre pressures which were fine. That bike felt unstable at motorway speeds and was perhaps due to the tyres fitted but nothing like what Barry quoted in the post above.

This may be down to that particular example, but it will be interesting to watch this space and see how many more come out of the woodwork with similar tales. Could be a PR disaster for BMW if widespread. Anyone thinking of changing, may want to think again. The 1250 was just such a sorted and pleasurable (and predictable) bike to ride, I can't imagine anyone wanting the change. Dealers can't get enough of them right now.
