The 1300GSA - Looks That Only A Mother Could Love…

Put any generation GS against a Ducati 996 and they'll win no beauty contest. That's not their point.

Not liking how it rides is the serious point. I had a 1250GS for nearly 40,000 miles. With lower crash bars and luggage /top box racks, that must have been knocking on 260Kg fuelled up. My 1300GSA seems to ride the same as that GS, pretty much. I had a 1250RT in between. Never settled into that bike and immediately felt at home when I tested the GSA. I expect the GSA's road handling to be identical to my old GS after I change the original tyres to Road 6s.

I haven't ridden a 1300GS, but am told it's stiffer and sportier than the old GS. I think BMW have set the GS up to try to compete with the sportier Ducati and KTM bikes, with the GSA as the tourer. Suits me.

And, even though this might come across as defensive, I got used to the 1250GS 's looks and it didn't stop me loving the bike. The same is true for me with the 1300GSA. Both are ugly luggaged up anway, which is probably 75% of my mileage. There is one thing I miss, the 1250GS 's little farty burble when you slow down to a junction in 2nd gear. That used to make me smile. Don't miss the gearbox though. Nothing's perfect.

Both myself and Lee my mate (on his 2014 GS) remarked on the exhaust. We didn’t like the stubby nature and noticed it was very quiet in comparison to his 1200 and my 1250.

Later regs no doubt.

We’ve already lost 1-3 to West Brom in a friendly! Pedersen out! 😆
Chill man…. Could be worse…. You could support West Ham like me….. and now the tax man has to pay because they went down….and the owner was another Lineaker…couldn’t keep his hands to himself…. What do you expect from a man who made his millions from porn…..

What does this suppose to mean? :nenau
Have you not come across the Evangelistic EV owners, who's expensive EV is the best thing ever, everyone must have one and is always banging on about how little it costs to charge at home and it's marvelous 0-60 mph times, yet chose to ignore the shortcomings like horrendous depreciation and being a PITA if you don't own a drive, the lack of decent national charging infrastructure if you have to charge away from home and that anyone who doesn't own one because it doesn't suit their needs or budget is a neanderthal knuckle dragger, even though the sales figures show private buyers are avoiding them like the plague and the current EV mandate for 2026 will never be met :ROFLMAO:. Although the detail is different there are some similarities and yes I am a knuckle dragging ICE driving and riding neanderthal 🫣

I am still non-wiser what you are on about and what do EVs have got to do with me? What the actual Funk is going on here? Or are you making assumptions based on your personal guesswork with regards as to what my forum tag suppose to mean?

Sorry, my comment about EVs was not aimed at you, nor have I tried to link your user name to my responses any way. EVangelists is just a general term used elsewhere on YouTube and car forums to discribe some of the (overly?) passionate EV owners. Just my British sense of humour at work :D

Please feel free to call me thick, but I am still at a complete loss as to what your intent is/was.

Ok, (in your words) my intent was to draw a comparison between certain obsessive Electric Vehicle and 1300 owners who take offence when someone else has a different view of their amazing steed. That's it, nothing else and certainly not aimed at you. EV in my posts refer to Electric Vehicles, not your user name. Hopefully this clears things up.

You could’ve said so to start with, instead you’ve taken it over each and every mountain pass along the way 🤣

Probably because it’s a GS owners forum?

There were a series of quite reasonable responses to the initial post, some agreeing, some explaining their perspective. Then sneldog came back in and it went downhill.

Only one person seems to have taken offence and dragged the topic down with him, Sneldog:
"A me problem? It looks like a pile of wank to anyone without cataracts..
And I didn’t design the fucking thing so I’m not sure why I’m to blame. You crack on flower, keep living the dream as you pootle about on your two wheeled thermos flask.
"

Give it a rest will you. 🤣

We are heading back from our Alps / Dolomite tour on our 1300 and the majority of bikes seemed to be GSA's ,common as muck over here.😀
Been in the Alps for the past couple of weeks and yes the GS's are as common ad muck BUT there seem to be a lot more earlier bikes around this year ie 1100,1150,1200 and 1250's rather than the newer 1300 models.
Possibly due as much to the economy that the actual popularity of the newer bikes, a Danish couple at our hotel had a late r1200gs lc and a late model r1250gsa and were saying they intended to keep the bikes as new 1300's are becoming unaffordable

I sat on a 1300 GSA yesterday at Great Yorkshire Show
It was in Trophy colours and looked lovely (from the riders seat)
It was the auto one I guess as there was no clutch lever
It’s big and hairy
But still a GS
If someone gave me one, I wouldn’t refuse it
Never look a gift horse 🤩

Does that mean only GS owners can join and participate. That'll be a bit of a shock to a significant portion on here who either don't or never have owned a GS and the Janitor will have to downsize his yacht if all those people can no longer pay subs. As I no longer own a GS, perhaps I shouldn't have even posted this.

I don’t remember saying any of that. It’s a GS owners site. The clue can be found in the site name. Post what you like but don’t get all Arsey when owners defend their bikes!

Porsche have now got a £750 option to add fake gearbox software to the Taycan - it spikes the inverter, to make it feel like its changing gear and you even get flappy paddles to add the interruption and reduce your efficiency

Ooh. Get you! A bit touchy, aren't you. Time of the month? Take a chill pill.

Lots of GS owners think that the 1300 GSA has been hit with the ugly stick. 1150 owners think that the 1200 was a step too far from GS origins. Others think that if it's not air cooled it's not a real GS. Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one. Mine is that I think the new GSA is ugly, along with just about every previous iteration. As a past owner of 3 different GS models and 2 KTMs I clearly don't have a problem with ugly bikes.

By the way, It's not a GS owners' forum, nor is it specifically about GSs. The sections and subsections give you a bit of a clue. If it was just for current GS owners it would be a, much smaller and b, boring. Finally, can you please point out where I became "Arsey" when owners defend their bikes.
