The 1300GSA - Looks That Only A Mother Could Love…

A me problem? It looks like a pile of wank to anyone without cataracts..

And I didn’t design the fucking thing so I’m not sure why I’m to blame. You crack on flower, keep living the dream as you pootle about on your two wheeled thermos flask.
Looks like we brought out the you problem. Nobody is interested in your opinion of a bike you've never ridden and know nothing about. :popcorn

I fail to understand why on earth it produces such a strong reaction from Sneldog, childish even. Don't like it, don't buy it. Just a puzzle why it brought out that reaction from him. Odd, actually, very odd. Not the viewpoint, which I know is shared by many (and I can understand why), even if I think differently. I knew that before I bought it. It's the desire to express it in this strange, desperate way.

We are heading back from our Alps / Dolomite tour on our 1300 and the majority of bikes seemed to be GSA's ,common as muck over here.😀

FFS. For the hard of learning, I will reiterate the answer I have already given. I am disappointed in it because I feel disenfranchised by BMW as I really wanted to love the latest GS and buy my fifth one. I could not because in my view, it is not very good. Seeing plenty of these pig ugly bikes on Saturday reminded me of this fact, hence the thread.

Some sensible posts in response from GS1300 owners - thank you for those. And some who seem wounded and mardy at any criticism of their mighty steeds.

To the latter, I hope you recover soon and recommend curling up on the sofa with the latest edition of AlpenTourer and crywanking yourselves to sleep in your silk embroidered GS1300 pyjamas.

You seem very preoccupied with masterbation. Maybe get out more and lighten up a bit.

I buy the bike I want, to please me. Don't really care what my mates think. Even less what you think. But, thank you for feeling the need to educate us.

You sound like @Arsey ….. whom we haven’t heard from in a while. Maybe he’s hiding because he bought a GSA…🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's gone to the Himalayas, don't you know?!

(And I just can't imagine him backtracking on all those 'Wankpanzer' comments, no matter what...)

I called in at Vertu / Alan Jeffries / Rainbow yesterday as my bike is in for a service this month. I was struck by how different it feels there now and they seem to carry less stock too.

I was also surprised to see used GSA 1300’s in there for sale as they haven’t been out that long. One was a black bike laden with extras and under the lid of the top box were stickers from Alpine passes. It almost looked like someone had bought one for a big trip and returned it!

The bikes below were new and significantly discounted which doesn’t surprise me. I know plenty of you have these and I am not looking for an argument and furthermore, I’m delighted for you that you have bikes you love. But for me, the 1300 GS in any guise really does look awful to my eyes and the Adventure model is the worst example. It looks like it has been designed with no consideration whatsoever to aesthetics.

I am in the market for a new bike as my 1250 is starting to show its age with peeling paint and so on. But the circumstances don’t exist where I would buy the 1300. The normal one is too firm and too small and the adventure just looks ridiculous. I don’t want to move away from BMW but feel completely let down as someone who has said several GS’s.

I would really like an upgraded, faster, better version of my current GS from BMW and it pisses me off that this misses the mark (for me at least) by so much. And to reiterate, I fully appreciate that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 🙂

Ignore the looks (it will grow on you)

Test ride one and i think you will change your mind.

I think it looks great and thank the Mothership for doing things differently.

Then again I prefer a little bit of imperfection.

Can’t understand all those nasty disproportionate replies, you just have an opinion and that’s all there is to it. Why….never mind….ignore em….
I found the same thing when I first I saw the R1150 GS in 2000 ugly as hell and now…only 25 years later - I think what a piece of beauty…stylish..hmmm ok can be still argued but grows on you and now it’s this combination of looks and reliability and solidness and endurance that shapes the whole into a BEAUTY…

What does this suppose to mean? :nenau
Ditto. The whole topic has me baffled. What's the real motivation for coming into a community dedicated to a specific bike, in order to rubbish it and those who made a personal choice to buy it? I don't think it's a positive, helpful nor healthy motive.

Fair play to come on here to report problems from experience and ask questions. I know nothing is perfect, especially any motorbike. Good to learn what can go wrong or be improved, what to avoid, etc.

I'd have thought many of us have had bikes we liked, but when they were due for replacement, didn't fancy the newer model. How many of us were then compelled to tell those who do like the replacement that they're entirely wrong and to do so so crudely. Then there's getting upset and doubling down with crude insult to any challenge? As I said, I find it odd behaviour. But, it's only a motorbike and I won't be losing any sleep over it all. :)
