1300RT…..

That obviously was terrifying for the owner. I've heard one other bloke, who took one out from Cotswold, say something along similar lines, that aerodynamically, he found it concerning. Nearest to that I came was riding a 1600GT. I stopped after a short M-Way blast to check tyre pressures which were fine. That bike felt unstable at motorway speeds and was perhaps due to the tyres fitted but nothing like what Barry quoted in the post above.

This may be down to that particular example, but it will be interesting to watch this space and see how many more come out of the woodwork with similar tales. Could be a PR disaster for BMW if widespread. Anyone thinking of changing, may want to think again. The 1250 was just such a sorted and pleasurable (and predictable) bike to ride, I can't imagine anyone wanting the change. Dealers can't get enough of them right now.
I have had no issues with my new RT 2 up and loaded, motorway no issues at all, and great fun on the wee roads around west Perthshire. Perhaps let’s hear first hand from some folks rather than “my mates mums pals sisters cousin” stories?
Off down to Germany soon and will report any problems if there are any to report

I spoke directly to the person who took the test ride as I was interested in his feedback, so YES it was first hand from a fellow rider, fresh in from his test ride. As mentioned, it's entirely possible it was a one off, but having reading similar stories about the new RT (all from feedback of those either having bought or having test rode one), there's definitely the same issue being reported amongst a proportion of them. Could be a batch problem, tyre issue or similar. Too early to speculate, but issues there are, nonetheless. Glad to hear yours is fine and hope you enjoy it.

Well it’s not a one off as the guy I copied in above was replying directly to Missenden Flyer as he found the bike dangerous and has now rejected it .
But I’m sure some devotees will love it regardless of any shortcomings .

As much as I like my 2007 R1200RT I would not get another, the later models seem too cramped and more "sports tourer". I've a 32" inside leg and my RT is just about comfortable on long rides, anything more cramped is a big no no.

The 1300 RT looks nice, but too cramped, too expensive (£28,000!), and seems even heavier than previous models.

I think BMW will struggle to sell them. Market for big heavy bikes is shrinking fast.

TMF has destroyed the new 1300 RT . I doubt that the police will be happy with it either. No good for anyone that’s not short in the leg .

Yup, agreed.
They’re struggling to sell 1300GSs too.
I think they’ve gone in the wrong direction .Same with the new RS. If you go for the M Sport version you can’t even fit luggage FFS. A sports tourer that can’t tour.
What’s German for cockwombleism ? 😀

You can but is €1500, which is mental. Conversion on the 1250Sport was £250.

Absolutely agree. Same inside leg and found the 1250 too cramped on low seat height but fine on high but then I couldn’t flat foot it. They’ve lost the plot imho with the new one. Costlier, heavier (ignore bmw claims as when specced to match RT1250Le it came out slightly heavier), smaller luggage, uglier, more cramped and more unweildly. Even hauling one off the sidestand needed more effort. I went the other way to a much lighter bike and zero regrets.

BM may have finally been too clever for their own good... I had a 12RTLC and it was a great bike with lots of bling but the idea that motorbikes can keep evolving into something far better is getting thin... Much more of a styling/ bling exercise that and real improvements... Half the time the newer bikes are doing the same trips but with fancier lights and "connectivity" but not necessarily any more rider satisfaction...
Many people I speak to with the 1250s seem to be left cold with the 13 generation...

Well, great 2500 mile trip down to Germany and Austria with the RT from Scotland vie DFDS Newcastle. Just over 55 MPG, no issues with it wondering over the lanes. Very comfortable (although I will fit the Wunderlich foot rest lowering kit like I did on my 12 LC) and without a doubt the best screen and airflow on any bike I have tried. The screen on the lowest setting got plenty of air through, and the wet performance is great. Panniers work well. Took two weeks mucking around to get used to the connected ride - it takes a lot of persistence to get used to it. Great on the mountains and can't wait to head off again.
