MCN are carrying spy shots of the new RT, clearly featuring a new engine, likely to be the speculated 1250vvt. They are expecting it to put out 150hp. Possibly will make its way into the GS in time for the Cologne show this October, and in which case into production for early 2019, with a new GS adv released before the Jan 2020 deadline for euro 5.

The spyshots are also suggesting removal of the bracketry for the nav, fuelling speculation of increased connectivity for the tft (all-in-one).

Well, it would coincide nicely with the end of the second year of ownership of the current GS...:D

Our GSA is due replacing in summer 19...was thinking of an RT. Might be fault proven by then?

150bhp! That’s brave when the market research they did a couple of years ago suggested that gs owners didn’t want ktm power

I think a 150 bhp with the correct torque values in relation to the base flat twin platform would be a delight to ride , it wont be like the KTM plus it will handle better .

So how is vvt going to make the tractor handle better? It isn't as good handling now so your statement is a bit confusing.

The nice thing about BMW boxers when you tune them is the massive amount of torque it develops.

This is a mildly tuned HP2 Sport but the race HP2 machines is about 150 - 160 bhp but obviously requires more maintenance. Not the same as a variable valve timing and lift but shows what is possible. The VVT head from Alpha racing is about 146ps but the development was ongoing at the time it was shown about 2 years ago.

Researcher - "So Mr. GS Rider, having spent £15k plus on your new GS, do you wish it was as powerful as the new KTM?'

*Someone like Engineer - "Goodness gracious no, that much power on a motorcycle is for fools and jesters. I believe that a GS has the perfect amount of power ... after all ... I spent £15k on one didn't I!"

Researcher - "Did you know that in 2019 BMW plan to introduce a 150 BHP 1250cc boxer for the new GS?"

*Someone like Engineer - "Well of course that will be different because of the torque and handling, I willl buy one purely out of necessity because my current bike will be completely worn out by then, if I could I'd buy a brand new version of the bike I have now as it's absolutely perfect like all the GS's I've had, sadly they'll be making this new 150BHP version when I come to change so I'll just have to put up with it, I'll probably take it to Hilltop to have it restricted back to the power of my current GS"

(Shit ... I mentioned Hilltop didn't I)

Only because gs owners did not want to be second fiddle to ktm, bragging rights "we have more grunt" :augie most now have an LC and will move on, its called evolution, and candy shop.

Well, with all of this extra power, it's a bloody good job the average rider age is getting younger, the roads are less crowded and are in ever improving condition :D
