17 inch Conversions

I understand your logic but what about the more comfortable riding position on the GS, with more distance between the pegs/seat/bars. I also love the benefit of the telelever front end. Both of those factors swing it for me.

Agreed. I rode the RS, and found it extremely uncomfortable, compared to the GS.

Stick...I'm with you ! The R or RS do nothing for me as they don't have Telelever that is far superior to any fork especially if the pavement is not perfectly smooth...And yes I hope the M1300GS will come soon with 150-170hp,17 inch wheels and the right geometry to take full advantage from the sportier rubber...:thumb
Stay healthy brother !

You’re stuck in a loop again. :comfort :blast

I have a VFR800 which is a similar style to an RS, and it is not in the same league for comfort as my 1250 GS Rallye. I also don’t think the changes are that expensive. The wheels & swingarm have cost me about £500 but will still have a value if I ever decided to sell them in the future.

Yes, I take the point about the Telelever which I agree is a nice solution. Not a big issue for me as I'm not the type of rider who is always hard on the brakes, and the ESA suspension is able to reduce fork dive, though at the cost of reduced compliance.

I've fitted up and back risers and am finding it pretty comfortable, though due to the current situation it is likely to be some time before I can do a long trip. Interestingly, according to the cycle-ergo website, the riding position is very similar to my much loved CX500, though admittedly my body is now nearly 40 years older than when I used to go touring on the CX!

I have noticed the ride is a little harder on the RS, but overall I find it a more engaging ride than the two GSs I've owned.

Anyway, being a bit of a modder myself (though nothing quite so drastic!) I'm impressed with your ingenuity, so enjoy!

I would say for someone who wants the benefits of 17 inch wheels but still GS comfort/practicability the S1000XR is the soltion.Especially the new one.Really fun to ride.
But the R1250GS with sports-suspension handles also very well despite the 19 inch front but has more TORQUE up to 8000 rpm at the expense of the ballistic top between 9 and 11000 rpm with driveshaft and Telelever as additional benefits...We need the M 1300 GS...:D

Plus one on that , the concept of the new bike would fill all . It’s just the fact that it’s a German product , and they just don’t seem to see the point , unless they are on the back foot then all is possible , if you see what I mean .....

add one u as in solution...:D
Stick...I would wait for the M 1300 GS...due out in 2022 as a 100 anniversary present of BMW Motorrad for 2023...:thumby:
That is what my crystal ball says...:D
Still in love with my 1250GS-HP but I might go back to the ADV because I do miss the added 100 miles of tank-range and the aluminum boxes...How about you ?

Stick I hear you but don't understand what you mean with german product and caught on the back foot...I would like the R or RS much more if it wasn't for going back to the old fork but I think the 1250 GS with sports-suspension handles better and is more fun to ride then any of them.
A R 1300 XR would be the perfect tool for road riding as also a R 1300 S boxer like the R 1100 S last in 1998-2005 would be a tasty proposition and still missing in BMW's model portfolio...:thumby:
Have a good one and survive the Corona Carnival...;)

The back foot means , under pressure it’s amazing what he German nation can produce .,
In a historical sense .
An XR would still have the devils spawn in the front end ..

Stick...Thanks for the explanation !
I suggest the U.K. and France should attack Germany again like they did on Sept. 3rd 1939 if that's what it takes to give us amazing products like the R 1400 XR...:D
I agree with you...choosing between the 1250GS-HP and the new S1000XR would be trading the huge mid-range,Telelever and driveshaft for the top-end and bigger right side case of the S1000XR...it is a difficult decision...;) But I think the GS wins...:thumb
Stay healthy brother...:beerjug: and drink a Corona or two...I will do the same later...;)

Stick you cost me money again brother...;)
Decided to get some GS-cast wheels for my 2019-GS/HP.I think in black they look good,in bronze they would look even better.See if that cures the high-speed instability issue. If not the wheels are 2 lbs lighter as also my wallet...:D
B.t.w. Rennkuh.de is not anymore as the man passed away so Alphatechnik 17-inch OZ wheel conversion is the only game in town. They also offer the 320mm dics which might be benefical if you go on the track.
As for myself I will stick with the stock geometry 19/17 for reasons mentioned and wait like a loyal dog for the XR version of the GS...150-170 hp/nm,17 inch wheels and Telelever...:thumby:
Straight from the factory done right !

Thanks for the info , and sorry about your wallet. It will be interesting tho to see if BMW do decide to make the XR version of the Gs as this would be a great special edition and I would buy one , but I suspect that BMW being sensible will not , real shame as the bike has more to offer to those who , like me , love the front end characteristics of the GS . The power increase would be nice , but not if it changes the torque , if it increases it and keeps it low/ mid in the rev range as this is where it needs to be .
Top end is of no interest to me as 140 is fine , just be nicer to get there a bit quicker , but in the real world the GS is fully capable to keep with most similar , more powerfull bikes ( lets not included long boring stretches of straight main roads , get a pocket rocket for that or similar ) Keep safe.

Stick,I'm with you on all counts !
But I believe the XR version on base of the GS will come...hence the M 1300 GS trademark by BMW...:thumby:
But it might be still a couple years off and incorporated into the then all new generation of boxers as the current ones will be then 10 years on the market...Hard to believe, especially how fresh the current one still feels.
Ride safe brother but faster than the virus can fly...:D
I will do the same on my 1250GS-HP with soon black cast wheels !
Hopefully they open up Mexico soon to try out the new wheels without getting locked up in the Land of the F(r)ee...Cabin fever...;)
