Hello all,

New here and after a brilliant test ride I have decided to look into getting a either new or recent GS1200 TE. I currently have an RT1200 from 2011 which is absolutely brilliant for "real world biking". Why change? Just because I am afraid that if I don't I will end up on the RT forever and miss some fun :blagblah

Now... money!

I have been quoted close to 18500 for a new bike with luggage gps alarm bars and akra.

This is basically just adding up the options to the new bike as far as i can tell and, here is the rub, it means a massive year one depreciation. i have bought new before so i expect some but this seems quite big.

Am I missing a trick? From what i read some dealers make an effort on accessories etc, am i wrong?

Take the luggage, bars, GPS and Akra out of the equation, and treat them as a separate purchase, as you can transfer these to another bike, or sell them if you want.

You can expect to negotiate a discount of between £500-£1000 on the bike at this time of year, depending on where the dealer is located, and how desperately they want to hit their target. You don't have to buy it locally, as any uk dealer will deliver the bike to you, so pick up the phone and call round.

A lot of dealers will offer a discount on these accessories, but if yours doesn't, you can always buy them from Germany for around 20-30% less.:thumb

My new GSA was £16500 fully specked minus the keyless bit, Sat Nav £550 & Akrapovic was £740.
He gave me a £822 discount off the new bike!

So £16,968 on the road.

I got a cancelled order GSA TE last November for around £14500 and transferred my GPS and Ackro from my previous standard TE.

Best to shop around a bit. :thumb2

My insurance is only a little bit more than Nuttys premium as I have points for speeding. :blast

Just bought a 4mnth old 15 plate Explorer 2800mls. Heated grips and seat, hand guards, panniers, next service thrown in... £9600

A much much nicer bike than was my 2013 gs wc te

A mate has one..2012..( Explorer that is ) ridden all year, absolutely no sign of any corrosion, 32000mls, not a single problem, never been back to the dealer apart from recall and servicing.

BMW ... they're having a laugh :comfort

I have a brand new F800GS, which i really rate for solo m/c day to day and adventuring. the problem is Mrs YMFB expects to be taken out and the 800 is just too snug, so we have a Multistrada GT, which is a great bike and a lot of fun. I have test ridden both the new 1200GS and the XR, which in my opinion are not as enjoyable as the Multi. The problem I have with the Multi & the XR is chain drive, which I just don't like. Riding two up clearly adds more strain on the chain and would need more attention than frankly I want to give. I know shaft drive is not without its issues but I have had one fail yet.

I can see us selling the Multi and possibly the 800 in a couple of years and going for the fully loaded 1200GS. The problem with that is on my recent foray around France, there were probably 4:1 1200GS to all other bikes. It is the Ford Cortina of motorbikes, not brilliant but common.

When did you last see a Ford Cortina? I haven't seen one for years, so they're not that common.:D

But there's hundreds of thousands laughing at the muppets buying new bikes :beerjug:

Timolgra - you're more than entitled to your opinion but it's you opinion, please don't claim to be speaking for some sort of majority. It just makes you sound like a plonker (IMHO)

mmmmm

reading "4mnth old 15 plate Explorer 2800mls. Heated grips and seat, hand guards, panniers, next service thrown in... £9600" does not do much for buying new!!! Unless "explorer" means something else??

By Explorer he means Triumph 1200 Explorer which is their version of a GSA. Very good bike. Awesome engine.
