Hi does anyone know definitively if a 1996 R1100GS first registered in the UK when new comes fitted with an oxygen sensor. I have just bought mine with a Remus Viper exhaust fitted and would like to revert back to the standard set up. I find it too noisy and I can't fit my World-beater panniers because the end can is in the way. It does not have an O2 sensor fitted at the moment so I was assuming that it would be OK to fit a standard exhaust without a sensor. Is this correct?
Any advice would be appreciated. I have done a search but the results were not conclusive and I was wondering if anyone has had experience of this.
Thanks Zach:confused:

So I am still confused 96 without and a microfiche thing for a 94 with! My 96 1100 stumbles a bit at low revs (about 2000-2500) and backfires on the overrun when the throttle is shut off. Not sure if this is a "design feature" or as a result of a Remus with no 02 sensor. If all else fails I'll take the plunge and get a standard exhaust and try running it without a sensor. If this is a bad idea please tell me so.
Cheers

Zach

Definitely no sensor on '96 UK models. Worth converting to twin throttle cable set up if yours doesn't already have it (not sure when they changed). If the throttle spindles are worn get Steve Scriminger to refurb them and finally treat the bike to one of John's chips ;)

My 1996 1100RS does not and never has had an O2 sensor. It has a CO Pot and no cat coding plug. FWIW the 2000 850GS I owned from new was the same. I had a Remus Viper on that too; I put the original back on when I bought some alloy panniers as they wouldn't fit with the Viper on. Too loud for me anyway. I seem to remember that in the UK a cat was an expensive option for the first few years of production and not many oilheads came so equipped. Bikes with a cat would have had the O2 sensor and a coding plug.
