2004 headers on a 2010 camhead r1200gs

Well I was all dressed up in my leathers this morning ready to leave for work and hit the starter to hear one little click and nothing else. :(

I tested the battery voltage and it seemed a bit low 12.5v ish so took the battery out and tried a spare one I have from my DR 800. Same thing, but as I was putting the battery back in the ring snapped off the positive terminal connector. I bought a new lug from a local auto factors and just stripped back the soldered it on with loads of solder and my mini butane torch. Put fully charged battery back on and same thing happened, crap I thought. Decided to look around for any wires I might have disturbed when feeding my chain through the frame and noticed a tiny little black plug down by the starter motor and gave it a prod out of desperation. It seemed a little loose and pushed home. Hit the starter and bike sprang to life and now does consistently. It makes sense in my mind that a loose connector next to the starter solenoid and starter would cause this issue.

Doing up and undoing the lambdas is easier with the pipes still on th bike. Put em back on, 22mm ring spanner, sharp tap with a mallet, job done.

Why oh why people’s do not use a little copper slip on such fasteners.
Hopefully you have on the bits you have put back on ?

The black wire / connector is the feed to the solenoid from the starter relay.
The little click you heard would be the starter relay but no power to energise the starter solenoid as the connector was loose on the solenoid.

Thanks, I am just glad it was something that simple in the end. It seems odd to me that all the connectors on the bike seem to be really good quality waterproof ones yet they use a spade connector like that on the starter solenoid that looks like it can easily wiggle/vibrate loose.
