What type of tyres? Should I stick with enduro types or are MX knobblies allowed. If enduro tyres, then which ones do you recommend as I know little about off-road tyres apart from TKCs for GS.

I knew this was going to get to be expensive :(

Musses are kind of foam inserts for your wheels... the idea is that they have foam in them not just air so if you get a puncture its not a issue. kind of think of them as run flats for offroad bikes - if you've watched the Race to Dakar Simon Pavey talks about them a lot.

knobbles - god knows, but there are road legal and no-road legal ones - if you want to use them on road later, get the right ones - though apparently you can just grind the "not for road use" off and thats ok - I read somewhere about road legal enduro tyres something about wider spacing compared to block size - I think it was one Steves link earlier in this posting.

I'll put musses and spare tyres on my list for the dirt bike show - I'm guessing thats as good a place as any to get them???

whats the life span of a moose??? out of hunting seasons that is?

OK Knobby, I have an extinguisher in the van.
Mousses, no thanks, never used them, I'll stick with the 4mm tubes. AC10 tyres also will be fitted to my G450X.

Very limited experience and ride like a Knobby, so very much new to this enduro experience, and have done one or two green lanes, and I have never done any hills or real mud.

so hopefully it is going to be lots rolling lush green lanes:D

Bow to your experience Steve, but yep, I noticed in on the form as well, which is why I got the one from Wickes

knobby, dont worry too much, from what I could see it's pretty much a flat course, there are some rise and falls and a couple of gullies, there's one long decent and a long slow shallow climb up to it - I'm not sure how muddy it'll be as I've never ridden on the course its self, but the surrounding area it all very chalkie - hence the name I guess - and its all pretty easy to ride

I know its not the same, but the 4x4's didnt seem to have too many issue around there yesterday.

The regs say black and round from that I take any tyre including MX tryes are OK :thumb2

I know a lots of events are trials tyres only these days what the score with this one...SE on trials tyres and chalk :eek:
 
this course is on ground usually restricted for millitary use only - they are far more effective at tearing it up than you'll be with MX tyres - or at least I'm guessing so :D

I'm pretty sure that no part of it is on a public road, but I'm only going by the 4x4 course I saw there last weekend
 
Good news is entry is in and I'm all ready to go. :)
Bad news is purchase of CRF250 has fallen through. Buyer has INCREASED the price and REMOVED various bits that were to come with it including the enduro wheels in addition to the Supermoto ones. He must have thought I was too keen to buy. Told him I'm not that desperate so will look for another. I hate it when people try to alter the terms after you have agreed on a sale. On principal, I ALWAYS walk away in these circumstances.

So that leaves me with 4 options:
1. Enter on GS - Not at all practical.
2. Borrow son's CRF230. Its a bit physically small for my 6 foot 1 and 15 stone and might struggle.
3. Use KTM 640 Enduro. Needs new fork seals and new tyres but should make it round?
4. Look out for another lightweight machine in next week. Might be tempted at Dirt Bike Show?

On balance, probably stick with KTM as at least I'm used to riding it off-road after the week in Spain.
 
hey Sid, the seller sounds like a right idiot, lets hope he ends up stuck with it and gets less for it in the long run! I can understand people being a bit peeved to have to let something go cheap (and there's a lot of it about), but a deals a deal!

I think it might have gone now, but I've had this one popping up on my ebay watch list for a while now. dunno if its any good to you?

either way, you'll need to let them know which bike you are using, especially if its a much bigger CC :nenau:nenau or maybe that's not so important either :D

I got a pair of AC10 Michelins of AndyC, so that's the tyres sorted, and Pip, I read that as 'tyres are free'.....

What about a trail ride on the Saturday Bakes.... well, in for a penny, in for a pound....:D (I'd bring my XTZ down also with Sarah's Serow.)

Called into KTM dealers in Exeter to buy new forks seals for 640 and new tyre. An hour later I became the owner of a nice 2006 KTM 300EXC. Extremely light weight and a proper enduro machine :) Managed to persuade him to fit a brand new Metzeler road legal knobbly and heavy duty inner tube so it looks ready to race.:):)

Will leave home early on the Sat morning and get to Bakes around lunchtime. Would definitely be up for a ride on the sat afternoon to get feel for bike.

Last stupid question (for now), do we get advised of our race number in advance and need to buy the required numbers?

Only problem now is that I can't blame the bike any more. Have to think of new excuses of why I'm going to finish last.eg too old, overweight, unfit, not used to bike and just crap? :D
