Having owned many gs bikes over the years i decided to purchase a 2009 1200 gsa ,after part ex ing my 2006 gsa i was looking forward to getting out on the new improved? model. After 500 miles i wished i had kept my " old" one i find the engine very harsh and noisy over 4,500 revs and the gear box is not as smooth as the older model, has anybody noticed this? does it get better with miles.(ps i have owned 5 gss over the years so i know what to expect).thanks.:

This is the best one yet - I've had four 1200s. Engine is more powerful and smoother. Gearbox is a dream. You're just judging it too early - or your engine needs adjusting. :)

I dont think you are ment to go over 4000 rpm till after 600 miles.I find no problem with mine 2009 gsa 2500 miles JJH

Mine smoothed out a lot after the first service and subsequent thousand miles or so.

I get my 09 GSA in a couple of weeks......i wait with baited breath!!

They do get better, or you get more used to the bike :blast However, my second 1200GS was definitely rougher than the first. The dealer said 'it would get better', but it didn't. Until I whinged and they took a lot more care setting it up. These things are all subjective, but there is no doubt that a good serviceman can to improve things. Insist on them investgating at the 600 mile service; your previous ownership of a GSA should deflect the b*llsh*t. Wouldn't worry about the gearbox. The new one is different - it either works or it doesn't.

I recently rode a mates 2008 GSA and it was great, a real improvement over my old 2004 GS. I wish my 'old boneshaker' was as smooth. I'm sure your bike will improve with use.

Maybe when the recession ends I'll upgrade myself ..........

When i took the 09 GSA for a test run the other week, it felt so wrong it felt as though i was cornering on marbles!! as i was used to throwing my GS a round corners and having great fun, this bike really knocked my confidence, i didnt enjoy the ride one bit especially with £1,000 excess to deal with if i came off. :blast

When i took it back and explained the problem with the bike the dealer said he had experienced the same when he taken it out, and that it must be set up wrong!! Well if the dealer knew about it why did they continue using it as a demo, without sorting out the problem.

So if that had been my first experience with the GS series i would had walked away dissapointed not knowing what the hype was about, and i certainly wouldnt have considered buying one, its only that i already own a GS that i know what a hell of a bike they are. :JB

So i put my hand in my pocket and brought a new one :thumb2
