I have been experiencing a shudder on brakes at low speeds in particular and used the forum to check other users experiences, problems etc. I reached the conclusion that my discs were warped and given the bike had done only 10.5K i booked it in with SSB for diagnostics session. Yes the discs are warped and will be replaced under warranty however I am told that if i want new pads I will have to pay for them myself as BMW will not cover them!!! Is this right??? discs and pads are always replaced together when there is a problem with discs aren't they ???

can someone please advise ?? should i kick up more of a fuss ??

Also i reported a little corrosion on the front of the engine caseing just along the seal - you know the usual place. i am told it would be more aggravation having this replaced -what with new engine number etc . the proposal is to have it rubbed down and painted . at the monment the affected area is less than an inch in size , obviously this could increase and i am worried that it could be used against me to knock a few extra thousands off ( slight exageration i know ) if and when i trade in for a GSA - which will happen at some point !!!.

can anyone give a little guidance or reassurance as bike is booked in in a couple of weeks for warranty work, 12K service and probably tyres Ouch:blast:blast:blast thats going to hurt my wallet

warranty

I'd refuse the repaint on the casing and insist on a new one, pads/consumables...i'd try it but wouldnt expect to get very far especially when they've done 10.5k.

Rubbing down and re-paining the front cover in situ will be a waste of time. The corrosion will come back.

Now, if they were to offer to balst and respray with some decent paint then I'd rather go with that than a replacement cover and WMB paint.

thanks guys for your response

now got me umming and arring what to do with the corrosion issue.

its not like i bought a cheap piece of chinese s*** either i suppose.

will talk more with dealer i think before committing , find out exactly what job entails and pro's and con's of a replacement - warranty doesn't expire until Novemember 2011 so a little time remaining.

What are the cons ? anyone

Its not the front cover its the side casing at the seal with the front

After about a 18 months and 15k miles on my trusty 2002 1150 (still got it!), the paint began to 'craze' on the gearbox.

BMW replaced the gearbox casting under warranty.

No problems since.

Hi mate,

I had my discs replaced recently on my 2009 GS at 12k miles. They paid for discs, bolts and pads. No fuss at all. So it is indeed worth you giving them a little more pressure.

Cheers,

Had two sets of discs under warranty on my kwacker, both times they replaced the pads at the same time, had they asked me to pay they would have got a very blunt response.

I also got a tank replaced under warranty as it was rusting, and an indicator cos it filled up with water every time it rained, and an oil seal that was leaky.

They should be changed together, it ain't your fault they put cheapo recycled bean tin discs on the bike and if it needs pads at the same time I see it as their problem and not yours.

I also would not accept corrosion, during warranty period, car manufacturers give 10 year anti-corrosion warranties on £6k cars, a £12k bike should not rot in under two years, it is only that some people put up with this sort of shite that allows them to get away with it, I am already taking cover ready for the blinkered's to come along and have a pop at how anti-BMW I am :hide

If everyone told BMW this was not acceptable things would get better, I don't even have an issue with things going wrong, but being told to p*** off after giving a huge amount of dosh to a dealer is not on, they like to bang on about warranty and support before they take your cash, the least they can do is honour it when things go wrong.

Hi Monty can i ask which dealership it was assuming it was BMW dealership that is - surely their response should be consistent:confused::confused::confused:

It was the much-maligned but much-improved Cannon at Braintree. They ran it by BMW and they agreed without arguments, apparently.

Cheers for that info Matt - think I'll be waving my finger at Southport Super Bike i might even ask if Williams Manchester are of the same opinion:thumb

Pads should always be changed along with discs. Is it not considered a bit unsafe or a least cowboy ish not to? Assuming the pads are only part worn, it's not your fault the discs have failed. Me thinks theres a bit of pressure to be applied here. Also, wouldn't accept the paint job under warranty. I've just replaced a cover on my bike for exactly the same reason. Bought a cover on fleebay, painted it and fitted it yesterday. Awesome! But the bike is 6yrs old so can't complain but no way would I accept that under warranty.
