2010.20 EU NT Maps released

<MyGarmin simply won't see it in my PC at all>

What browser are you using - or have you tried both IE and Firefox?
I use Firefox in Vista and it works OK.

Second - is the PC "seeing" the Garmin OK? -i.e can you see the GPS as a separate drive? If not, it could be a dodgy USB connection.

Oh Boy,, Can't wait 'til my disc arrives.
I am assuming all you guys are talking about downloading and installing and not updating from a disc.!:pullface

Only a few more weeks to go.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I got home today. My disc has arrived,,,
Joy short lived tho.:tears

At 17,10 I put disc in drive on computer.
AT 17.13 after following all messgaes I get the message. "Update cannot continue as there is no previous version of maps installed"

I tried again a coupla times after but still got same message.

WTF. The unit is a new one bought and registered in September this year.
As mentioned previous, I opted for the disc and was charged £5.75 total handling charge.

I have written to Garmin Support via their website asking I can't update. Expecting a reply within 3 days.

I wish I had gone for the download version now.

P.S. I am asuming the mention of no previous version of maps is referring to the GPS loaded ones. I didn't get a disc with the unit so I couldn't load onto my computer.

Really pissed off I am:tears

Yes, I suspect that it will only install CN Europe NT 2010.20 if you have 2010.10 already installed in Mapsource.

Which GPS unit did you buy? Have you tried connecting the GPS unit to your PC and in Mapsource going to Transfer > Receive From Device > Maps ?

Schtum.

Yes, I do have 2010.10 already on the GPS as supplied with unit. There was no Mapsourse disc as the Mapping was already loaded. I have a Nuvi 1300T.
Yes, the unit is connected to computer and switched on.

I fully understand the way to upload to device as I have had a SP111 for a few years now. She-who-loves-me decided to upgrade to a new Nuvi for my Birthday in October. We(she) bought it when we had a break in Chester for a long weekend.

Anyways, digressing. The fooking thing just won't accept the new update.

Thanks for your interest .

ISTR that it's not quite the same though. I confess it's so long since I did anything with my old SPIII, I can't remember.

My point is that if you don't have CN 2010.10 installed in Mapsource on your PC, then it's possible that the update won't run. In that case, I'd try transferring the mapping from the GPS unit to Mapsource on your PC, using the procedure in Mapsource which I described above or you could just drag and drop the .img files in Windows Explorer.

Silly me just tried again.:pullface

Still no joy.

Actual wording is This Garmin GPS is not eligible for this update because a previous map version is not installed.

Schtum.

The only versions of Mapsource I have are for the SP111.
I understand they are not NT version, so I can't use that.

OK, forgive me if I seem to be teaching granny to suck eggs here.....:)

1) Mapsource isn't the mapping. It's the name of the Garmin platform which enables the maps such as City Navigator and others to be displayed. It will allow you to display both NT and non NT maps. For example, mine has 12 different map sets inlcuding 4 NT map sets, 3 non NT map sets and various copies of Roads and Recreation and a third party map set of Iceland.

So, the first thing I'd do is to update to the latest version of Mapsource. In Mapsource go to Help > Check for Software Updates. I suspect that there's a newer version of Mapsource waiting to be downloaded......;)

2) You could then try transferring the 2010.10 maps that you currently have in your new GPS unit into the new version of Mapsource which you've just downloaded. As I said above, in Mapsource, go to Transfer > Receive From Device > Maps.

3) Those two steps should give you an up-to-date copy of Mapsource with the 2010.10 maps installed on your PC. My hunch is that will then allow you to proceed with the update to 2010.20.

I really appreciate your help on this matter.

I will do as you suggest before cussing some more.

BUT imagine I was a newcomer to this gps lark and had bought a brand spanking new GPS with maps already installed.,,, within 60 days I connect my Gps to computer and register it with Garmin who "promise" me a "One Time map guarantee" if a new mapping becomes available within 60 days.

A month after registering the unit and I connect the gps to my computer and go to my GArmin where I am told I am eligible for an update. Options available are download, or a disc. I choose disc. I pay for shipping and handling.
I receive disc and go thru the rigamarole of trying to update my GPS.

Can you see my point?? It's only the fact that I have had a GPS before that I know what should be happening.

Well, I did as you asked me to and loaded Mapsource onto computer. Went thru the update and all was going okay when it was downloading. However, suddenly the programme decided not to install.,, Something about a "Bad line parameter"... Mapsourse closed down and I tried again. I was offered same updates and clicked to download. Download bar shot from one side to other and closed down.

I am now going to un install mapsource and await the gurus at Garmin to explain to me what the hell is happening.

I have been sat here by computer since 17.10 at least. It's now 19.40 and I have had enough.

Thanks again.

Ok - if it were me, I'd uninstall Mapsource and download the latest version from scratch. Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.....:)

Schtum.

When you refer to "downloading latest version from scratch" Are you referring to MApsourse or downloading the update.??

I can't now download the update as I have had the disc delivered. (I did try and got the message I had ordered the update disc.).

Thanks again.

I'm quite precise in my use of the terminology. Mapsource, as I said previously, is the Garmin platform which allows the mapsets, ie City Navigator and others to be displayed and manipulated.

So I'm suggesting that you uninstall Mapsource and download the latest version of Mapsource - v 6.15.7 from here...

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

Notes:
◦WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product.
◦This version of MapSource no longer supports Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows NT.
◦Works with Windows Vista.

If you do this, you'll need to reinstall your old City Navigator non NT maps for your SPIII if you still want to create routes for that etc. on Mapsource.

USUAL DISCLAIMER APPLIES - ie screw it up and you're on your own.

Schtum.

Knowing I am a little riled at the moment I could take your comment of how you are precise in your terminology wrong. As I "hinted" before, I am familiar with Mapsource having owned a SP111 for a number of years.

Your terminology may be precise but you sentence construction is a bit ambigous in that last one. That's why I asked to verify what you had written.
I will not sit here "arguing" over something I have no control over.

I thank you AGAIN for your support on this matter.

Pat:type

P.S. Final sentence says it all.

Except that if you had an old version of Mapsource installed with the City Navigator maps that you used on your SPIII loaded into it, you should have been able to download the Mapsource update; although, ultimately, it still wouldn't have helped because Mapsource wouldn't communicate with a nüvi 1300T.

It'll be interesting to hear what Garmin say about it.
