New Years Greetings to all and safe riding in the coming year. Can anyone give me a heads up on the cost of the 6000 Mile Service on the 2010 GS 1200. Some of my mates have been trying to put the frighteners on me with talk of 500 quid odd. Is this the case?

I imagine dealers are a little quiet right now after the snow and ice, would have thought a bit of dealing was in order on the price.

Southport Superbikes 6000 miles service (not annual) £125.42p supplied my own engine oil. (serviced Aug. 2010)

I had a flyer from pidcocks that stated 10% all winter servicing and whilst i was in Benhams BMW at wolv on monday i asked if they would allow 10% disc and yes was the answer so do ask.
I have just paid £160.00 at my local dealer here in Hants, This was for the 6000 service less valve clearances as my one year old bike has not done the miles (4,500 on the clock) so, the service was due by date rather than miles,and I will get the valves done in 1500 miles time, its all very confusing!
ring around the dealers, its amazing how much it can vary by. Last year I did the same for my annual service. Costs varied from £95 to £220!

My GSA is 9 months old due its 6000ml service and I have just been quoted the grand sum of £322.21p (inc vat)!!
- best I get on the phone and ring round for a few quotes.

There's a requirement to have the bike serviced at 6000 AND at 12 months?
If so, is it better to combine the two (assuming that's possible)?
Which is most cost effective?
I've just contacted Vines and asked them for a price of a combined 6000/12 months - £360!!!!!!
And before you shout 'read the fecking handbook' I can't.........I lost it

Just confirmed that the quoted price incorporates the 6k and the 12 month service. Apparently BMW recommend that The initial 12 month service includes brake fluid replacement and that pushes up the price. - I've rung a couple of other dealers and have been quoted £360 and £350 for the combined service. Oh well only another 15 months and it will be out of the warranty period and I'll be able to keep some of the costs down by a bit of DIY. I've also got a few minor warranty issues to be looked at so they may as well have it for the day and I'll have a day out on the loan bike (extra £15). Or just wait at the dealers and see if I can drink £300 worth of their free coffee and chocolate!!
in many years of BMW bike servicing (well I have owned a beemer one way or another pretty much since 98) living in London and using South East dealers incl Oxford, Vines, SBW and others I do not think I have ever ever left any of their shops having paid less than £300. Even when services worked out to be cheaper ( I have a a vague memory of my R1150R having a service bill for £80 odd once) and esp in the old days before all this gizmos would go wrong 3 weeks after warranty I would compensate and buy gear or other tat from the shop. Gloves, oils, spanners, you name it... Bill would always be over £300

Perhaps a daft question but does the 6k service need to be completed by an BMW dealer or can an independent do it as long as they follow the schedule?
An independant can do it as long as he uses BMW parts and any warranty work is done by the dealer.
There are some excellent guys out there
