Im updating to a newer 1200 next year and thinking a low millage 08 or do i go for the twin cam on the 2010 ?

Is the new one any good ? or a big can of worms LOL:D

PS its my daily transport I have looked around but nothing seems to do everything such as the GS.

Test rode a 2010 model twice and then bought a 2008 one (no test) I could nt really tell any difference with riding them a few days apart, been riding mine a few weeks now and do not find it lacking anywhere, certainyl if I had the money for the 2010 I would have liked one, but in the real workd think it is just a marginal improvement.

Maybe of you hopped off one and straight onto the other it would show up, but if your budget is really at 2008 money you will not be dissapointed, should also allow you to get a bit more spec which would probably be more useful than a few more BHP :nenau

I test rode a twin cam in September and was very impressed with the extra power below 5k and the bit of extra zip above 8k (for 500 revs)

It pulled a higher gear everywhere and was much better at quick overtakes two-up :thumb2

I saved £2500 by buying a pre-reg 2009 model last November though and it certainly isn't £2500 worse than a 2010 model, especially if you ride solo most of the time (I don't as I can't get SWMBO off the back) :) I guess if you're buying second hand the difference may be smaller :nenau

Had a look at a few dealers etc and some good prices out threre.

I think its going to be a speced (all the packages etc) up 08/09 model probably Feb next year depending on work etc.

Probbably main dealer to keep a warranty of some sort.

what amazes me is the difference in price which has bo ryme or reason and the amount of low millage bikes out threre.

Dont think its worth the xtra for the 10 plate

There are some good deals out there on 2010 bikes ,and they will go up a lot next year with the VAT rise.I found a noticeable difference in the new dohc engine ,but am sure you will enjoy an 08/09 bike:thumb

I rode a GS demo after popping my 2008 GSA into BMW North Oxford for a service earlier this year.

Naturally, there's a difference in weight anyway, but I was significantly impressed at how much it changed the bikes dynamic.

Unfortunately, it had a downside. It made me ride like I still had my fireblade! :blast. Turned me into a right hooligan! :D

I won't be changing my bike for a few years yet, but when I do I'll be seriously considering this engine over its predecessor! :rob

That's what I like about the GS. As it gets vibey and signs off early at high revs you end up "short" shifting and using the torque. Very relaxing. Although for high speed overtakes a bit more top would be nice but then if much more you start changing the entire character. May as well get a K series in that case. The only crticism I would make of the early 1200GS is it could do with pulling smoother below 3000. As I have just got the bike I'm hoping I can sort that with some careful throttle balancing and a Power Commander + setup.

The new overhead cam engine (2010) is much nicer than the old one - if you ride the 2008 and the 2010 back to back you will notice the difference - also from my experience it doesn't go off tune between services as quickly as the older engine either.

I traded up from an 06 Gsa to a 2010 model in May....

....in my view it is a massive improvement.

Ridability, acceleration, smoothness, lighter clutch, more responsive gearbox.....across the board it's a better bike in my opinion.

The ride is definately more 'spirited'...but mine's got the enduro box, and I think that slightly takes the edge off the acceleration, but I find it good rather than excessive.....it certainly doesn't remind me of a Fireblade...just more responsive.

If you can afford it, then it's worth the extra :thumb2
