I thought the handlebar bolts were and E10 and E8 on the 2010 GS and they seem to be more like E14 for the top and E12 or E10 for the bottom? Just want to make sure before I have a go at them as I don't want to strip them. Any thoughts?

Hi Cookie,
My 2010 Mk3 GSA handlebar mounting has 2x E12 front and 2x E10 rear. The E12 will be a tight fit if it's ben at all deformed by a berk trying to undo it with a hex socket. How do I know this....:augie

B&Q do a useful star socket and bit set for £17. Not Snap On quality, but seems OK.

cheers, Spanner

I've just fitted a RAM ball to one of the rear bolts for my GPS. The E10 came undone quite easily with an 8mm ring spanner.

So long as the longer through bolt is tight...

I've just fitted a set of Jaws 1" risers under the OEM riser and spun the OEM risers around so the bars are also further forward. The Jaws risers come with longer 'through' bolts to hold the assembly together which have allen socket heads :thumb2. The shorter bolts with E8 star heads only need a light torque to just trap the bars.

Anyone know why BMW use star head bolts for the handlebars? I can't imagine many people have handlebars nicked - not unless they go with the bike.

Spanner you and I must be thinking same thing. Ordered a set of Rox as well last week to save my back. Looking forward to installing them. How do you like them so far?
