I've a new 2010 GS that's covered about 1200 miles and it had the cam sensor issue from day 1 which the dealer resolved fairly quickly (as you'd expect!).

Since then I've not been convinced the bike is still running right as on a good long weekend run to see family (in order to get it up to the first service point) the running of the bike seemed to change mid-ride as if someone had flicked a switch. The performance seems ok but it seems rougher with more vibration and what feels like a bit of surging at a constant speed. I mentioned it to the dealer on the first service but when they test rode it they said it seemd fine and to be fair it did seem better on the way home (although they tested it after the service and not before). Since then it seems a bit rough again and I've started to think it's me being paranoid after the poor start of my relationship with the bike. Howevr out for a nice ride this morning I stopped to fill up and as soon as I started it from the petrol station it seemed like a different bike - super smooth and responsive but then after a bit back to feeling a bit vibey again. :nenau

So has anyone else had any of these intermittent running problems? I know the answer is it's a new bike so take it back and I will but with these sort of issues give dealers too much wiggle room IMO as they don't want to spend time looking for something that's not obvious so any similar experiences from others would be useful. :)

try a tps reset and a tank of shell vpower, then make the motor work hard for a couple of hundred miles, plenty of closed throttle decel as well as open throttle.you can have it done in an afternoon in this nice weather:thumb2

To be honest I think I'd be ringing the dealer again, You've obviously spent a lot of money on the bike so you want to be happy and not feel like the dealer is seeing you off. Just a thought have you tried riding a similar model from the dealer to compare?

Good luck.

i too thought i had periods of really smooth followed by not so sure but have stopped thinking about this and am consistently happy with smoothness now. Are you always using shell optimax petrol etc ? It may be that after 3500 I have got used to the bike more or it has fully run in but i don't seem to notice changes in smoothness any more. it may well be just all in the head.

How is your oil consumption - has this been variable? mine used oil in first 600, then stopped until about 1200. then gobbled it up for 500 miles. ( ithink I might have glazed the bores by too much light running ) then hasn't used any last 1500 miles.

So not just me then? :thumb2 I've only used Optimax in it once and didn't really notice any difference to be honest? And I must confess I keep forgetting to check the oil - I forget these agricultural thingys use it as the VFR never used a drop in 6000 miles :augie It's got to go in at some point to get the engine bars fitted (ordered with the bike but a shortage apparently so on back order  ) so until then I think I'll just ride the thing and monitor it. If I still think there's an issue I'll nick the demo bike off them and compare. ;)
