2010 GS vs. 2008 without cat?

Test Ride

How did you find the handling on the GSA 1200, I have a 1100 and recently took the new bike out for a test.
I found that at around 80 mph the handle bars seemed to flap about or at best felt vague!!, is this somthing that you have found, when I metioned it to the dealer they said that all of the 1200's have this trait.

Best regards Stretch :)

I don't think I took it far beyond 80, but I'm sure I must have gone up there just to see, and I don't remember any particular handling quirks. And I was mainly focussing on the handling, both to see if the extra weight felt any different, and having a really good play with the ESA button.

Perhaps this was down to the shocks being brand new, or better set up, but I felt it handled better than my 2008 GS.

You wouldn't have been in 3rd with the throttle pinned at the time? Could have been the monster torque? I'd be very interested to hear how you found the contrast with the 1100 in both power and weight. I wanted a GS from 1100 days, but didn't find the weight low enough or the power high enough to wean me off my VFR until the 2008 revision. That was a long time to spend coveting every GS that passed me on my commute!

I did feel a bit of a weave on my bike a while ago. I was loaded up with camping gear, there was a bit of a side wind, and I was making progress and still accelerating. I gently closed the throttle and it sorted itself out right away. No laundry bill ;)

Akra end pipe, Keihan headers and power comander 5 on my 09 GSA, sounds good and rides well:thumb2

Hi TonyB, This is what I want to find out, does the Power Commander make much difference? My bike setup is...

Keihan Headers
Ackrapovic Can
Accelerator
K+N

Was wondering if spending and extra £500 for PC + rolling road map was worth it? What benefits?

For me it was worth it just to make sure the bike was running as it should with the added extras, but £500 worth? well that's up to you. I was lucky in that I had some spare cash and managed to get mine done for just over 400 quid as a special offer. As for improved performance, the bike is a lot smother through the rev range but quicker, it's difficult to say it might just sound quicker if that makes sense

When my bike was put on the Dyno the engineer told me that the bike was running quite lean in places so it may be worth getting your bike tested especially as you have a K+N fitted as well.

Hope this helps

Tony

Keep your current bike and save a wad of cash, its a 58 plate FFS so just why do you need to change? Spend a little of the saved cash on Remus headers (or other) and Akro can, then smile and also treat the missus to something nice. I have Remus and Akro and its sweet!

Main benefit is a much smoother running engine throttle responce and improved fuel economy Faster ? no, woth £500 no, put it towards a 2010 even with all the mods the 2010 still has a more useable engine 58 Plate GSA Decat pc +custom map+ BOS end can+ iridium plugs
