2010 GSA Exhaust Noise

I have had tinitus for years, one of the reasons I always wear ear-plugs, to protect what I've got left.

Mine was caused through work though, and apart from the early years on learner bikes, have always worn them on the bike.

*note*....nothing to do with my apprehension of the new exhaust note...that's down to purely personal taste

Any advice re: getting rid of the ringing noise???

On a bad day it drives me nuts and I can't sleep...

Unfortunately not.....any damage to the ear is permanent.

I was led to believe that the 'ringing' noise is actually your ears trying to compansate for the damage....but not exactly sure if that is true?

I'm the same as you, and many I'm sure, that it tends to be at night that you notice it most, when it is quiet and it is all you can hear.

It's funny, after all these years I've forgotten what silence is.

The other problem I get is background noise....if there is noise in the background I can hardly hear someone speaking to me!

I will say that you do get used to it...but it never goes

Probably just a coincidence, but my father in law suffered bad tinnitus until his doc put him on beta blockers for blood pressure and that cured his tinnitus.

Depends on the type of tinnitus and the cause. There are certain medical conditions that can cause tinnitus of sorts, so it may not be a coincidence. 'Tinnitus' due to a vascular cause TENDS to be a 'rushing' sound rather than a high pitched 'whistle' or crackle.

No it's definately noisier...or 'throatier'...at standstill, and once on the road.....

....as I think the exhaust flap closes at the revs the emmissions are tested at.

i picked up my GSA this weekend. Agreed standard can is not bad at all, even the GF on the back noticed and thought it was a good sound. But am interested in news from anyone modding their 2010 GS/GSA with aftermarket cans. More noise and power never hurts

on my fourth G S , 2010 model ohc , only been 600 klms so far but it is too loud for me , my last G S ,an 08 with an Akropivic can was nice , I am going to try and fit the Acropivic to the new bike ( always a different size )

Article in the current BMF magazine. Seemingly motorcyclist's hearing can be damaged even when wearing ear defenders! Academics are researching the fact that even though engine, road, wind and ambient noise is reduced by wearing ear defenders, the noise transmitted through the helmet and on through the skull bones in the ears can be enough to cause hearing damage! Riding even at the legal speed of 70 mph, the noise inside the helmet can be higher than the legal limits of noise at the workplace. The study is still on going, so watch this space!

Anyone put a Remus Hexacone on their 2010 ? I can't stomach the cost of the akro - you can get an alloy hexacone for £350. I know the quality isn't as good but it's a big saving. do they make a good noise ?

I've had both the Akra Titanium and a Remus Alloy Revolution on my 09 GSA, and to be honest, i liked the sound of the Remus much more than the Akra.
The Akra sounds a bit raspy and tinny, whereas the Remus had a lovely deep tone.

I foolishly sold the Remus because it was looking a bit tatty (although the new owner has restored it a treat). So now i've fitted the OEM can again, because i just don’t like the sound of the Akra (baffle in, or out)

If it's too loud you're too old. I'm 67 with new GSA and can't see the problem. Soon off to Crete. What's happened to UK bikers? Whining about pot holes, bit of gravel etc. Get out and ride somewhere warm and meet some real hazards.

Picked up my new 2010 GSA yesterday:

Yes the exhaust tone is different and louder even at standstill

No its not too loud; just nicely different.

No at m/way speeds, although I'm sure it louder, I can't hear it.

Yes in town its got more audible presence but not bad.

I've read I've rode I've considered.....

It's different, it's louder, it's FANTASTIC!!!!

I only notice the different (louder) sound at low speeds and round town - where it sounds great! Perfect for looking dead cool as I ride past the teenage girls at the bus stop!

Once the speed rises I have no idea what it sounds like because the wind noise drowns out the exhaust noise and the ear plugs muffle what's left.
