2010 GSA Exhaust Noise

It looks and sounds better with an Akrapovic :augie:D

If you want it quieter............

Fit an Akrapovic :thumb

Strange but true, the standard BMW silencer is louder than the Titanium Arapovic, I changed mine today and was surprised to say the least. I'll pull the baffle out tomorrow, should be nice then

Akrapovic

Sure does look and sound better than standard pipe:thumb take the baffle out as well and wake the dozzy car drivers up:D

revival of this thread

now 2010 owners have got a few more miles under the belt how is everyone feeling about the noise issue. Have to say that i was totally unbothered when i got mine in april but now after 7000 miles the noise is getting to me. Driving between buildings gets a particular booming going that is headache inspiring. I do not like wearing earplugs because it makes the tinnitus ( because of the bike ?) I have picked up more intrusive and i don't like the detached sensation but I guess i am going to have to to stop it getting worse. A quieter exhaust is certainly something I would consider - anyone else thinking this way ?

No! I'm fine with mine and I've got to say I think you'd be crazy to take the exhaust off and replace it with something quieter.

You should persevere with ear plugs; apart from anything else, you need to protect your hearing for the rest of your life. Maybe look into some custom moulded plugs. Soft siliconne, very comfy, 70 / eighty quid a pair??

+1 on the earplugs, I've only recently started using them (twelve months) after reading an article informing people, they can still preserve what you have left :blast

As regards my 2010 exhaust noise, I need an akro :D

Best regards Stretch

PS maybe that's because of the lack of earplugs for all these years :rob:D:D

thanks guys ...ok so you are responsible for me just spending 22 quid with NN on some motosafe alpine ear plugs. perhaps these will save my ears without spoiling my enjoyment... got to be worth a try - and a lot cheaper than a new exhaust !

Seriously, look into a custom pair rather than spend twenty odd quid from the high street. I use these people and couldn't ride any distance without wearing them.

They don't give you that vibey bounce in your ear that the foam ones can, I could wear them all day (infact at work I do, sometimes 5 - 6 hours at a time) and would happily sleep in them. :thumb

Edit .... Link not working?????

I got me some moulded plugs and wear em every time I ride!

I love the booming between buildings and bridges too but I want more... Am/was looking at Akro but I dont want quieter. I want the same level but a better/deeper sound. As for neighbours, I leave for work at 4.30am and never had a complaint with my '10GS, the GSX1400 with staintunes was a different matter though

Don't get moulded plugs, get disposables that fit. Much better attenuation to protect your hearing (mainly wind noise, forget the pipe).

Nope I love the noise - but I normally wear earplugs to protect me from wind noise induced hearing damage - occasionally take them out so I can hear the noise!

You thinks it's noisey!!!!!

After 10 years of riding Harleys with straight through pipes...noisey it ain't!!
I used to set off car alarms, yeah it was silly and immature, but I was 45 at the time and if the neighbours complain...The Bee Joke comes to mind.....

First Bee keeper,
"How many bees do you keep?"
"I've got 3 hives, in all I've got around 50,000 bees" answered his colleague.
"So how many bees have you got?" the second beekeeper inquires.
"Oh, about three million or so"
"Three Million?! How many hives do you have?"
"Just the one"
"You've got a three million bees in one hive?"
"Yeah. F**k 'em, they're only bees"

:Motomartin
Well, my 2010 GS is slightly loud, but to echo that well used Harley brigade saying "Loud pipes saves lives" which i think is possibly quite true.......

By the way the exhaust valve thats been shoehorned onto the 2010 GS, doesnt seem to make any difference to the decibel level, so what the fcuk is it really there for?????

Answers on thr back of a tenner to: I should know the answer to this but I really dont and im not pretending im clueless, I REALLY am!! PO Box 9000,Surrey!!!

The akro isn't quieter with the baffle out - I prefer the sound but agree it's not much louder than the standard pipe on the 2010. The other way to extract more noise (if you really need it ?) are decatted heads - they certainly made a big difference on the previous model years.

I've done over 6,000 miles on my 2010 GSA now....and have now grown to love the exhaust note.

The extra miles seems to have given the pitch a deeper tone :nenau, and after my initial reservations, now think it adds character to the bike...it certainly attracts attention.

I find the 2010 Gsa an all round better bike to be honest.

On the subject of ear plugs...I wear them, and always have. I wear custom ones...but whichever you choose, I think it common sense they're worn. You only get one chance with your hearing, and any damage is ireversable.

2010 gs love the sound, even use no earplugs now(on short Trips)just to hear it,lovely 5000 miles now and its great:)

I'm finding with my 2010 GSA that it is noisy enough that I feel slightly self conscious when blatting through built up areas, the sound waves are reverberating off all the surrounding walls and the locals start waving their walking sticks in my general direction.

Also the drone at motorway cruising speeds can get a little tiresome.

Weirdly, apart from the odd stick-waving individual, joe public generally seems to be more impressed with the manly roar than I am.

I do wear earplugs

I have often got complimentary comments about the exhaust sound from joe public....from old ladies to the man in the street.
