I tried loading the 2010 mapping from garmin, but there was not
enough space avalible on the hard drive.I have only the pre loaded
maps on the unit, nothing else. Do i need an SD card to load these maps.

Something's not right - the installation process USUALLY overwrites older versions on the GPS, but leaves some legacy maps in MapSource.

Therefore, you shouldn't need a separate Micro SD card only for maps, but you will need one for Music files and for storing more than the internal capacity of 20 Routes on the GPS.

I'm not certain you can have more than one set of maps on the GPS at any one time.

What is the point? (genuine question, not p-take)

I recently downloaded the 2010 maps to my Zumo 550 with no problems, my understanding is that they should overwrite the old maps. I still have 180MB free space on the Zumo 550 after the download. You should not need an SD card to have one set of maps on your unit as far as I understand.

Might be worth ringing Garmin support I think.

I thought this myself, but ive only used tomtom in the past.

Loading maps, routes, etc is all new to me.

I will try again later.

where is the best place to get a 4gb card for it.

Amazon has been pretty good for Sd cards lately.

Not really sure I am answering the same question but I did the update to 2010 mapping when I got my 660 (no micro SD card installed) and when I look at the status page on the Zumo it says I am using the 2010 maps. Any help?

Cheers
