. . or possibly not :)

Never found a forum which charges to view member sales and carries a load of adverts too :(

If you benefit from this site then £12 is not a lot of money.

I subscribe - not just to look at the F/S section - but because I have benefitted so much from the advice and information that is freely available on this forum.

Maybe I am a tosser for paying the subscription - but I do not think so.

2010 GSA

Just thought I'd chip in my thoughts as I have just test ridden the 2010 GSA. My current bike is an 08 F800 GS as I test rode an 08 R1200GS and hated it compared to the F800gs. I also ride an 05 Sprint ST1050 as I like a bit of power.
The F800GS was in for a recall and I was asked if I fancied a test ride on a new 2010GSA. As I had 2 hours to kill I said sure why not, and am I glad I did.
The bike is great, it doesnt have the lumpy feel of the 08 has plenty of oooomph and once you get the confidence is great on the bends. The new GSA is a great combination of both my bikes which I like for very different reasons. I have to say I was very impressed, so much so I pick up my 30th anniversary GSA a week on saturday :thumb
I will miss the F800GS as it is a great bike, but compared to the new 2010 GSA its just not in the same league !
If you can afford it, go for the 2010 model.............. it worked for me !

Did 170 miles around the Peaks today and the 2010 Twincam 12 Adv motor is far better than the 2008 one I had

It is far better in terms of low-down grunt (Powervalve:thumb2) and drive

If you can afford it - buy a 2010

The 12 GS/GSA has moved on significantly in 2010 and the engine is a peach:thumb2

I bought a pre-registered 2009 model GS last November and I have to admit that I'm disappointed with the low-down grunt, especially when riding with a pillion. Mind you, I did have a K1200S before which would pull top gear smoothly from 25mph all the way to 170+

I saved around £3k by buying the old model though, so I guess it'll do for a couple of years yet :)

My dilemma is to either buy a brand new 1200GS with possibly premium and comfort packages for about £12500 or buy an older 2008 model for say £9k with fewer options .

The new model comes with vario panniers and top box and tank bag but the used model I'd need to buy those extra.

I guess I'm asking how much these things depreciate . . . is it necessary to have any particular options to make resale easier ?

ESA is available but now ESA II like on the Adventure model . . . is ESA II about to be added to the GS ?

Is the 2008 single cam model really any less powerful than the 2010 model ? What impressed me with the 2010 model was the smooth torque for B road overtaking, very creamy and like a Hayabusa, no hassle or fuss, just gets on with the job.

Anything else I ought to know about ?

Many thanks :beerjug:

Steve

It comes down to just 3 things;

1. Just how important is it for you to have a brand new bike? :ymca
2. How much fuel will the difference in ££££s buy so that you can actually use it? :beerjug:
3 How thick is your wallet? :bow

Just don't get caught up in "The Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome :blast

Never found one as good either - by some margin :thumb2 Just look on the Auto trader website for your chosen mount and then come back here armed with your 12 quid.

.......You'll be glad you did.
