2010 Twin Cam Recall ...

As discussed several times before, for recalls they use all the available info - from DVLA and the importers own records of owners/purchasers. The idea being that it's better to hit a few ex-owners with unnecessary letters than risk missing current ones who might have been a bit lax in notifying DVLA.

Fair enough, but it was a vehicle I sold 4 months ago and for which I've received a confirmation letter that I no longer own it from DVLA

So the recall notice was sent to you because BMW had you recorded as having bought it - nowt to do with dear old DVLA at all.

Got my letter yesterday. 62 plate Twim Cam Triple Black. Looks like it's all of them then.

The letter doesn't seem that scary. I'm going to wait until the new year when it'll get serviced anyway.

Eh? ..... Where did I say that? :nenau

BMW had no idea I owned it. I bought it at an auction. The previous owner had the bike removed from his care by the High Court Sheriffs Office. It never went in to a dealership all the time I owned it. After 10 months of ownership with mu name on the new V5C I sold it privately to the third keeper. I sent off the V5C to DVLA then got a note 3 weeks later acknowledging the fact that I no longer owned the bike. Just over 4 months after I sold the bike I received the letter from BMW who had obtained my out of date details from DVLA

If you have any further questions please just ask

Same here. MOT and service mid Jan, so will see if I get the keys to the 1000R demonstrator for half a day? :thumby:

2010 GS twin cam.

Going into Coopers Tunbridge Wells next Friday, blagged a S1000RR for a couple of hours !! :clap

Got one for my 09 Gsa. Went to dealer yesterday to book it in. December 16th! Asked what time, told to drop it in and leave it first thing and they will call when its done. I asked if there was an 800gs available I could use while the had my 1200 as I was thinking about changing. No was the answer, as its December there might be salt on the roads and they don't loan bikes out in those situations. I always seem to get these problems with my nearest dealer, never had an issue with Jefferies when I lived in Yorkshire.

I took mine in for the recall, they had promised me a S1000RR for a couple of hours while they looked at the bike.

The bike had been sold and the service team not notified, so they took one out of the showroom for me and boy did I enjoy it. Even offered me cake and coffee upon my return.

Hats off to cooper Tunbridge Wells. :D

I had a loan bike when my 2009 GSA went in for the recall, and a new fuel strip. About 1hr after leaving the dealers on the loan bike I received a call telling me that my bike was ready for collection. Had I known it was such a quick job id have stayed at the dealers drinking their coffee.

I got a letter too.......................pity they didnt bother checking to see if i still had the bike....i traded it in too a BMW dealer more than a year ago !!!

Still not had a letter, took my bike to BMW dealers last weekend for a service. No mention made of the recall. Did tell me I had a seized brake caliper and it should be replaced - extended warranty eased the pain slightly, as did a loan K1600GT.

Got 2 letters yesterday  one for the 2009 GS that I traded in for my my 2010 TC GS, and the other for my 2010 TC GS that I traded nearly 12 months ago for my Crossdresser  At least their records are up to date :blast

With the greatest respect to you all. I'm sure you would be even more pissed off if you still had the bike and they did not send you the letter. I appreciate you have had to open an irrelevant letter and risked paper cuts, emotional stress etc but I think it is time you all accepted that garages are not generally known for their administrative skills.

I have a 2010 GS. Which I bought second hand in a private sale. Using my initiative I called my local BM dealership several months ago and quoted my vin number. They immediately gave me an appointment the following week, gave me a BMW 600 sport scooter, topped all my levels and updated their records for future reference.

If all we can moan about is letters sent to previous owners that life can't be that bad eh!

Sounds about right, mate.

Hi,

Can someone describe work to be done under the recall? I am not sure about letting the dealer here loose on her. Is it a matter of checking for cracks in the fuel pump discharge fitting bosses?

It's my understanding that they examine the bike. If you need a new pump you get one fitted. If not they fit a reinforcement of some sort - either way I can't see how you can keep the dealer out of the loop.
