2011 GS: slight stutter when moving off in first

Hi All

I have stalled three times recently when moving off in first. I have put this down to a very small stutter when opening the throttle as if there is an instant fuel starvation for a few seconds just as I am releasing the clutch. It could be me but I am not so sure!

I am under warranty etc so will speak to Bahnstormer but thought I would ask if there is any intell on this so I can have a more finromed dealer discussion.

Mine did this stalling before a primary coil failed. They tend to go in pairs so replace one and the other will be failing soon after**. If the coil body is split and/or smells burnt the coil is failing or will do soon. The next stage (which could be weeks away or just a few days) is poor fuel consumption with a sooty plug & O2 sensor.

Get the dealer to look.

** North Oxford BMW warned me this usually happens and sure enough 5 miles after fitting the new coil the other one went down.

Might be worth doing a TPS reset. Its easy, and free!

Often can clean up glitchyness in throttle operation.

Thanks for the comments. It seems like I maybe waiting for a coil failure as the petrol consumption has aleady dropped to low 40s from low 50s. Just had its 18k service so will go back and check on best approach.

if its happened only since the service, ask them if coils were pulled and plugs changed, you wont be the first that has had this issue post a service, they have either disturbed something that was on its way out, or put something back wrong, their box of tricks may even indicate which cylinder is not burning right and guide a choice of which coil to swap

Mine went right down to 35mpg before I got home and soothed up the lambda so badly it had to be replaced.
Get the coil connections checked. You might also notice that one header pipe is running less hot.
If you have a suitable lever pop the coils out. Mine smelled burnt.
