2012 GSA Engine bars

I’m having difficulty finding some engine bars for my 2012 GSA,the only two that I’ve come up with are either the ones sold by Nippy Norman or those by Adventure Designs. The AD ones look to be the best but unfortunately I reckon they’ll cost around $450 when shipping/custom duty is factored in,which is a bit too much!.I’m not too keen on the clamp fitting arrangement on the cheaper NN ones, it looks like a bit of a bodge up.
I’ve carried out lots of forum/internet searches but cant find bars for the GSA on the SW Motech, Hepco or Touratech sites,can anybody point me in the right direction,please

Is the bike original 1200 gs or newer WC one ? I have some spare BMW engine bars for hex head will fit twin cam as well but not WC model

It's a twin cam,I didn't realise that BMW produced engine bars for the GSA,I'm after the bars that protect the cylinders,are we talking about the same thing?

Perhaps not then I was pointing towards the standard bars in front of the cyl and around the tank etc, but what I did was went my local metal smith showed them a few pictures of the swmotech cyclinder gurards and they are happy to fabricate it though had the chance to go back to them yet as busy with fixing alternator at the moment, perhaps that might be an idea they should be able paint it in good finish tooo

There are some on eBay from a company called Heed in Poland that are quite cheap but I'm not sure if they are worth a punt though as they have mixed reviews.

The standard kit always worked for me when I dumped it. You could take the stock stuff off and fit any of the GS stuff if you wanted but yes it will cost you.

I have Heed bars on my F650GS and they are spot on.
 
The standard GSA crash bars do a great job around the petrol tank. They are crap at protecting the rocker covers. Worse. When the engines bars bend back (as they should) they hit the covers pushing them backwards. This risks cracking the cylinder head.
The Machine Art rocker cover protectors spread the load and slide rather than snagging on a lumpy surface.
They would be even better with no tubular bars around the cylinder heads. Unfortunately that's a lot less simple to do.
Why do I say this?
LHS crash bar has about 10mm to bend before it hits the cover. The RHS has maybe 25mm. But my RHS jammed the rocker cover and hat to be levered away before the head cover would come off.
The engine bar top mount is a tiny bracket held by M6 screw. The bottom mount is solid but risks frame damage when it bends.

Thanks for the reply,did you 'mishap' happen at speed?. I ask because the GSA has (standard?) cylinder covers fitted which surley would do the same job as the Machine Art jobbies.
A few years ago I dropped,well actually layed down,a fully laden GS on my driveway as I was setting off (late!)for a trip to Corsica/Sardinia,the bike was in gear and started to do a pirouette on its engine bar!(which in hindsight must have looked quite funny, not at the time though!). I'm convinced that the bars saved the day/holiday which is why I want to fit some to the GSA.
 
The GSA crash bars wont work with the standard GS.

I was doing about 20mph (maybe less) on a back lane that suddenly went hopelessly muddy. I was on road tyres but I'm no offroader so lost it to the right.

My plan is to have new engine bars made using the original end fittings. These will drop straight down from the lower ends of the petrol tank protection bars and meet the existing engine mounts. They will simply support the tank protection bars they wont protect the cylinder head covers. I'll then use the Machine Art head protectors. The solid nylon material spreads the impact loads and can clean up if cosmetically marked.

The standard head protectors are thin metal so bend. They wont save the rocker covers in a good bash. I have Touratech covers which will probably save the covers but the weedy (M6) mounting lugs on the cylinder head look vulnerable to getting broken off or worse.
 
Yeah I still have them in the garage but these are for standard gs not sure of going rate to be honest

I've got a 2011 1200GS Twin Cam. Standard GS.

Can you confirm that the ones in your garage will fit?

If so, I'm interested.

C'mon - think of a price! :-)
