Had two occasions recently when the tyre pressure sensor for the rear indicated low tyre pressure. Checked the tyre tonight and no sign of a foreign body etc so used the "spit" test on the valve to see it blowing bubbles. My question is can the valve core be replaced? The sensor is clearly doing its job but it's losing pressure through the valve core.

Try tightening the core first with a valve core tool. It could just need a nip up on its seat.

Is it actually losing pressure? If not, the battery in the sensor itself probably on it's way out.

The valve core is a normal schrader type. The valve stem is permanently fixed into the pressure sensor unit. The valve stem is sealed into the wheel rim with an O ring. BMW sell a repair kit for about £25. It's way over-priced for what you get but as long as the rim is not corroded it does sort out any air leak.
