Looking good.
Looking good, no doubt will look better in the skin. Optional LED headlights and cruise control.
This prototype looks nice with the Black and white panels and the beak looks better with the black edges.

Munich. The debut of the new R 1200 GS touring enduro sees BMW Motorrad open up a whole new chapter of the GS legend. For over 30 years, the "BMW GS" concept has stood for sheer riding pleasure and a thirst for adventure. This is particularly true for the GS motorcycles with boxer engines. The “big GS” bikes can be used to discover the most remote corners of our world – and have already provided many travellers with a trusty mount for their world tour.
To mark the launch of the new R 1200 GS, the motorcycle that the fans of the legendary 2-cylinder touring enduros are already dying to see, the Bavarian brand is sending one of the new models on a very unusual world tour of five continents before the official market launch.
The “ONE WORLD. ONE GS”-Tour will go from New Zealand, via Laos/Asia, Botswana and South Africa, New Mexico/USA and back to Europe. The new R 1200 GS will be ridden by five of its fans for the first time.
A top-class jury of international VIPs, which will be announced at the EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan in November, will choose five riders from among the applications received during the application period. These people will then have the opportunity to discover the new R 1200 GS for themselves on one of the five stages of the trip, taking the memory of a unique experience back home with them.
Applications will be accepted from the date on the world premiere at Intermot on 2 October 2012. The closing date for entries is 30 November 2012.

The empty weight (ready for the road) according to DIN of the R 1200 GS is 238 kg including standard BMW Motorrad Integral ABS.

Yes I'm disappointed about that too. That so far seems to be the only downer for me. Still no idea on cost, servicing or warranty yet?

God, I wish I could get into the deconstructionist looks of modern bikes. I'm sure it'll be great on the road and all that but while the head is convinced, the heart is utterly uninterested (though I will take one out for a test in due course).
From a technical interest perspective it's interesting to see where BMW have gone with it. According to the website 'und der vertikalen Durchströmung der Zylinder arbeitet der Motor immer effizient, durchzugstark und zuverlässig' / 'and (due) to the vertical crossflow of the cylinders, the motor is always running efficiently, reliably and with loads of torque'. I'm still not quite sure how repositioning the inlet and exhaust tracts have managed all that, although it may have been possible to tune the airbox / throttle body relationship more effectively, I suppose (leading to better torque characteristics).
Still, objectively speaking, almost everyone else seems to like it which is good.

Screen: I would think so. My first thought when I saw the cockpit and screen shots was the screen loked like the RT electric arrangement.

I think there is a mechanical knob you can turn to wind the screen up and down.

The last three pctures in set three show a close up of the bars and the manual adjustment for the screen.
The other thing that keeps poping up in the blurb is "factory fit option". I like it but the costs (or lack thereof) could mount up dramatically and my 1150 is still going strong and looking as good as a GS does
