2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

It's only the electronically adjustable system I believe. They can still make the standard suspension version and the poor old owner will have to turn the adjusters themselves instead of flexing a thumb.

Always the best way - that's my opinion.

Surely as an engineer you should be embracing new tech rather than burying your head in the sand!! You'll be telling us you ride an 1150 next.

Not all new stuff is good - the basics of the LC are fine, i.e. uprated engine, chassis etc are all improvements over the old 1200 and the 1150 (that statement should wake a few of the old 'uns up :D) - the electronics suspension thingy needs some more time to mature methinks.

What it needs is to be built according to specification, not cheapened down after approval

This is not how things normally work - the specification should include the costs and selling price - subsequent cost engineering is often done but changes have to be approved and signed off by engineering and not just the bean counters - so these things should not happen, more likely that the suppliers of the component have made some error or changed the spec without telling anybody, more often than not someone has made an assumption that perhaps they should not have.

any one got any positive news? any sign of anything happening ? I have a feeling this might just drag on ..and on and on … as much as i have a lot of patience….its bound to wear thin one day

I've got some positive news last night. The dealer finally confirmed that my RT was not affected. It took me 3 calls telling them that my bike does NOT have Dymanic ESA before they confirmed they now had clearance from BM of a list of bikes not affected by the problem. I decided not to order it as I almost never used it on my last GS and am now pleased with my decision. :bounce1

Sounds like an Italian job.... Marzochhi my a55....

Cannot believe I decide to return to the fold with my second brand new BMW in 10 years and this happens before the bike has barely turned a wheel... My first new bmw back in 05 GS12 mk1 in reliability terms was a total lemon (physically looking like one too) that cost it's new value once over in post warranty work in its last 3 years (only 28k mile total). See many of my old doomsday posts. Now I m back. Lucky owners who pick up the model I do. Jinxer...

The next new one I buy I will forewarn everyone.:(

No positive news btw. Home Counties dealership told me it's 8000 bikes sold, 80% with ESA. Uk has 445 sold, ESA reckons north of 300. They have sold 35. Thinks it's not the work that will cost time, they can do a dozen per day in their shop alone. It's part availability, apparently Marzocrap is a small place. Reckons I ll miss June, but likely not my annual trip,at the end of August. I asked for a K 1600 replacement, lol.

Also mentioned RT production line has stopped since last Wed. So any new orders not built look like a 64 plate.... At best

Gd luck to all.

Ps: Honda where on earth are you? New Pan would slot in handily here...

Yes, so much for my great find with only 300 miles on clock by private owner, a couple of weeks later and grounded. At least we know who to blame now though!

As has been said, this won't be a quick fix, because of parts
I reckon it will be August & into Sept
Also don't forget that both German & Italian factories shut down for their summer break for a month starting in late July
That will compound the delay :(

If that's the case, BMW need to get ready for a fair few rejected bikes.:rob I certainly wouldn't wait that long.

What else can they do?

Maybe fit GS shocks to RT's, but then that'll slow down GS production:blast

Fact is fact and to turn around a new updated spec shock isn't a 5 minute job

Holidays have been booked and factory workers will be expecting to spend a large part of late July and August, in the sun with their families in Germany and Italy

This must be a complete nightmare for BMW, one of their biggest headaches for sure

5-8000 bikes out there which are unusable, with fed up owners................with no knowing when a fix can be enabled

A production line stopped and orders going unfulfilled

BMW Motorrad Days at Garmisch, only 3 weeks away and it's their showcase - however there will be a lot of disgruntled owners berating them this year

The RT is BMW's best selling bike, after the GS/GSA, so this is no small feat

What hire car did they offer? I'd have taken it anyway!:P

As it's BMW assist they have to provide a BMW hire car (according to Enterprise).
Had a nice 5 Series from Enterprise for a few days when my F650gs was in for some warranty work :)

If you break down whilst away say abroad on holiday do they still offer a car instead of a bike ? so I'm away to the Picos in September via Brittany Ferries. If I break down and they give me a car how do I get the car on the ferry when I have a bike ticket ??

On foot

You won't be taking a Spanish BMW car on the ferry, it'll stay in Santander

You will have a car waiting on disembarkation

I have a friend who is currently in Italy with his RT. He was contacted and told not to ride his bike. They gave him a new LC to use and his was taken away on a truck.

Spoke to my dealer today as I had a test ride booked on the RT. They have had to put an extra 15 R1200GS LC's on the road to give to customers for the summer until their RT's are repaired, looking at August/Sept until the new rear shock is available.

Also, those who have placed an order for the RT are being offered a K1600GT for the same money!
