2014 RT's GROUNDED! DO NOT RIDE!

I too have received my official letter confirming what my dealer told me. However, I need to fully digest the £500 compensation offer, as, on the face of it, it seems to be a small amount considering our 'bike will be off the road for the best part of 3 months. What I'm thinking is that if I rejected the 'bike and got my money back, then bought a new one in September for the same price the effective value of my investment will not have changed. If I keep my 'bike and get it back in September then the effective value will be what I paid less depreciation, the depreciation being somewhat higher than the £500 offer.
Am I talking a load of s**te?

Nope

Reject and re-purchase later

I would be thinking along the same lines, though I might wait a little longer to make sure the new design of shock is ok.

Its interesting to see the disparity between UK riders compo offer, and the American counterparts. Wonder if BMW UK know about the USA offer ?.

on the grounds of the lesser uk offer alone, i'd be telling bmw they can keep their bike.

I think a flood of letters to Adrian Roderick, General Manager Motorrad UK is called for outlining the fact that a lack of communications, superior packages being released in the USA several weeks earlier along with a feeble £500 voucher inst good enough!

On the issue of compensation. It happened to the people that bought Porsche 911 GT3s in the UK. The compensation was much less than other parts of the world so they got together and manage to get a fairer (bigger) payout. It's all listed out on Pistonheads.com in the Porsche general forum.

The things they did that was quite impressive was to find out what people were offered around the world. They then all agreed an amount based on what other countries got and wrote to Porsche GB.

Maybe you guys need to organise something like that to get a fairer compensation, if the $2,500 figure is indeed accurate.

People keep saying "Compensation".
"Compensation" for what exactly ?
I understand that people are not riding the RT they bought BUT, in the summer mind, most of my local dealer's affected customers are riding around on a 1200GS or a 1600GT. They are putting the miles on those bikes clocks, whilst their own bikes are not wearing out tyres, pads or getting closer to Service.
It would be totally different if people were being left with no motorcycle to ride, but from what I can see BMW have ensured that isn't happening.
Given the circumstances, it seems like a pretty fair deal to me, in all honesty. :augie

I've just sent my letter to Adrian, there doesn't seem a lot of point in going to the dealership, as they will probably be having to bare some of the financial brunt.
With regard to the 'Compensation' quoted, If I'd have wanted to ride around on a GS or GT, I'd have bought one in the first place. I've done 1300 miles on the loan bike (GS), but I would rather have done them on my own RT.

Only those not taking out a loan bike get the $2,500.
Those that take a loan bike get $1,000, which is just shy of £600 by my reckoning, so the UK offer is not a million miles away from the USA one for those taking a loan bike. Not sure about those not wanting a loan bike, or taking a full refund against another BMW bike though.

I like the way that the compensation offer isn't proper money, but BMW coupons. So £500 costs BMW around £200.:rob:blast

Putting it simply, the cost of depreciation. I spent x amount on a 'bike that I can't ride for 3 months. When I do get to ride it its value will be x less what? £2000? If I reject my 'bike and get full value back, then buy a new one in September I will have a 'bike worth what I have paid for it.
So, the compensation does not, in my opinion, recompense for the depreciation on my asset! It does cover for the inconvenience but I would have expected it to be £1000 cash, not BM vouchers.

Well I won't be buying one of your dodgy reject RTWC's, unless they are really cheap, dodgy bloody things.

So the bike wouldn't have depreciated anyway ?

I appreciate you wanted an RT, but I come back to the point that BMW seem to be playing it pretty fairly with people. You're still saving your own bike from wear & tear.

Read they are putting in a Wilbers shock in the bikes until a new ESA is sourced.. lads can have their bikes back and get the ESA when available. This was in US of A .

Maybe the affected owners should let BMW keep their bikes even longer, so that they avoid even more wear and tear? In fact, the longer it takes them to fix this f**k-up, the better off everybody is!
