Some haggling would get you one with some toys for that sort of money would be my opinion.

Personally i wouldn't touch one without heated grips and a few other things

Is it low suspension :D

To give you a bit of an idea 2 years ago a mate of mine bought a 2 month old GS TE with 300 miles on the clock fully loaded with panniers and Nav 5 for a fiver under 13K from a dealers traded up last year and got just under 10 for it with 12K on the clock

Rick why did you say low suspension, here we go again.............:blast

I know I know I just couldn't help myself

I do wonder if this bloke needs helping to go for a piss though and wish he would just get on and buy a bike ! Dare i say it he is almost as bad as Twizzle :D

Me i just see a bike and bu the bloody thing if its right and i can afford it although Im probably a bit odd

Nah dare I say we are similar, now why did you bring Twizzle on board, this is going to be a long thread, but FFS how hard is it to buy a bike, you screw up, you learn......:beerjug:

I'd say that was a good price for a water cooled R1200GS with fuck all on it and a dealer warranty that's almost certainly worth Jack Shit :clap

Is it this one?

if that is the one, how does the OP know what it does and doesnt have? - i struggle to believe there can be that many really "basic" ones out there.

I mean - no heated grips? - really? the control circuits are build in - the switch must be there - surely everyone gets heated grips on a GS?

to the OP - if its at a non-BMW dealer, you need to get the last 7 digits of the VIN from them and run it through a VIN decoder website to see what its build options were at new - the dealer may not even be aware of what it has or has not got fitted!

No.. don't need help to piss... its easy... if you don't like the post.. piss off and don't comment :)

its no heated grips and no switch?... Not sure why you'd spec a bike without heated grips, unless the 2013 / 2014 issues put him off?... you can fit Oxfords for £50 and they are much better than BMW so not that much of an issue....

I want to keep the bike so ESA may be a problem longer term as I know 2 people whos had issues with ir on 2014 and 2016 bikes.. so wilbers may be the way to go.... Just whats one worth in this spec??... FSH BTW

VIN decoder.. Oooo.. where do I find that... Thanks

It is extremely difficult to get a handle on second hand prices for Basic lc models because there are so few of them out there . I know when I bought my GSA in 2014 3 separate dealers were told by BMW UK that none were being brought into the UK unless on special order and even then BMW were not making any in the June/july production run .

More recently when I replaced my TE model I insisted on a Basic (with certain options) despite the dealer trying to persuade me otherwise, when it turned up it was minus a couple of specced options one of which BMW UK believed could not be retrofitted and I was asked if it could not be done if I would accept a swap for a new TE model and were a bit put out when i told them they could FRO and if the option could not be retrofitted they could provide me with another Basic with it fitted from the factory as specced (the option was sorted with a specially written factory sourced ECU update) .

Standard MO from dealers is push to sell TE models as BMW import them to stock and apparently profit margins are greater , strangely enough speaking last year to a dealer in Austria they said that they sell as many Basic models to their customers .

I've just realised that the bike on e-bay and the one in Smogbob's post are the same and I'm assuming that it is the bike you have been offered for £8500 ?

Perhaps you could confirm or deny this ?

Seeing as most dealers will have a £1500 mark up on used stock i would say that £8500 is good but there is still a little more to give

No.. it's a red one in Hull.. the bloke on eBay would not drop at all.. he'll be holding that one for a bit then

And.. one option the one I'm on about has that I didn't mention... nice wire wheels :)

One thing you have to take care with these lower models is who the first owner was.. some come from the training school in Wales and have had quite a rough start to life...
Usualy sold on e-bay ;)

I know you think i am taking the piss but actually if you look at the posts between the piss takes you may find some helpful bits !

So spoked wheels on a billy basic bike ? That smells fishy to me for a starter and i dont think the price is terribly reasonable ( I could be wrong)

What is your budget as IMO you would be better off haggling with a BMW dealer for a higher spec bike with some warranty. Yes you may pay a bit more from a dealer and for the higher spec but again IMO it would be worth it

no... 5 ways bike shop.. but its not in yet.. coming in PX.. so think it will be good..... at £8.3 i think it may be worth a go?.. not into gizmos as I've said before....
I know it will drop like a brick against a TE.. but longer term, do I need the upkeep of a TE?...
Also Bm dealers are above 10K for a 2014 TE with 10-15K miles.. and at this time of year, they are not negotiatin (strange as I thought they would have loads of PX bikes??)

Where do the PX bikes go if they don't sell them ???????

.. and at this time of year, they are not negotiatin (strange as I thought they would have loads of PX bikes??)

It's March - prices firm up or even rise as the market picks up. Last year I noticed a £1k rise over Jan/Feb prices at quite a few bikes at big name dealers in the nearly new or pre registered bracket and they sold pretty quickly thereafter. Some folk may have got a decent deal I guess, but a month earlier they might have done even better just paying the list! There may still be some good deals around, particularly at places where they don't fly off the shelves too quickly, but I reckon the longer you wait the less likely that deal you're hoping for.

Better listen to sense, Sea Dog normally makes you spend cash, :beerjug: this time he is helping you save some, his advice is wise, buy now or pay more later it is so when riding season kicks in...........:rob
