2015 R1200RS

BMW make a wider rear mudguard. It's OE on NZ/Aus bikes. Seem popular. I might get one as my Puig hugger snapped, like they all do.

Got one of those fitted to keep the muck off the top box. Not sure about this, but it may interfere with the evo pannier fittings which I think you have on your bike? And indeed the shad rack fittings. I was recently evaluating pannier options and looked the case to me. I could be wrong though.

If anything..... I would be more inclined to put a more minimalistic tail tidy on rather than go bigger.

Thanks for the tip though

Has anyone used the little small Wunderlich front engine guard......and if so.....does it cover enough??

What rad guards are folks going for?
(I was looking at the Evotech)

Right lads.....need some help from the collective..

Is it possible to change the odo/speed units on a UK R1200RS from MPH to KMH??

Seems to be possible on the XR, RT, GS but I can't find a video for the RS

only if you have a BMW Nav 5 or 6 satnav - not sure if this changes the bike's LCD or just gives you kph on the Nav

I don't have one but I do use a Garmin Zumo 390 which I can change to kph but I leave it in mph as it shows me the local speed limit in the same units as the bike display

It's weird that it's possible on the other models but they chose not to make it possible on the RS.

I will have a NAV 5 for the journey I'm concerned about.......but I won't have the NAV going forward (and I don't think I'll buy one either.

I'd imagine it could be done at a dealer?

I had a Gen1 S1000XR and I am not sure it was possible on that bike - maybe it was an option on later models with the hideous colour telly masquerading as an instrument panel?

I am sure a dealer could change your bike to kph by convincing it to be Australian but you would not have it as selectable on the user interface by a rider. You could put a big magnifier over the analogue speedo to give you a chance of seeing the impossibly tiny characters. Not sure why that dial wasn't a rev counter like the XR...

Edit: hoisting a petard, so to speak https://www.s1000xr.uk/index.php/topic,4376.msg39087.html#msg39087

The many mysteries of BMW Motorrad.

The video I seen of the XR was a 1st gen.

I suppose they figured it had dual readings on the speedo.

I'm boggle eyed from going through a pdf of the User Manual......to no avail.

It's not so much the speedo as the ODO in mph that will be a pain (tank range in particular)

ah, you missed my edit about the XR and posting elsewhere about it

Just noticed you are in Ireland. The bike will let you know when you have 50 miles left, shine a yellow beacon and start a countdown. Even in miles, you should be able to determine when to fill up! It will display the countdown even if you had temperature showing as your preference

So....it turns out the values/units can be changed but only through the can bus (dealer or GS911)

Why that can't be done through the set-up functions on the dash is beyond me.

Thanks a million

(you know who you are)

How long was it before the hugger snapped Wessie? did it break off completely or just hang loose?
Sorry for butting in, but my Puig broke too. I had it welded and it was good for several thousand miles. The original brake could have been caused by the suspension bottoming out and the hugger hitting the rear subframe, as there was definitely markings in it. When mine broke the hugger part was still attached to part of the broken frame. So it didn't get jammed up on the rear wheel. Hope this helps.

it was fitted in 2016 when the bike was new. Removed at the service a year ago about 24000 miles as it was cracked.

I have looked at this type for my GSA. 👍
