Thinking of getting a tracker fitted plus maybe a basic alarm.

Any suggestions/experiences?

Roadangel Biketrac...... got one fitted, it works....so Im happy with it.

Bubb

Same as Bubb, on both my bikes. You can watch the Dealership mechanics road testing your bike live on your phone too, awesome.

They got a fright when they took my HP4 out, they never knew it had a tracker, naughty boys.

I've got BikeTrac, top product. Easy to use 24/7 portal and they also ring you from their call centre if the bike is moved without the key.

What's the cost of the roadangle bike tracker ? Initial and annual or life ?

£300 for the unit, roughly £100 to fit, then £99 per year subscription. Can get a discount if buying for two or three years instead or just one. Worth it.

Rewire Security 303.

£60 for the unit. £10 annual fee (included in the purchase price).
This gives 24/7 live tracking.
Simple to fit. It has 3 wires, +, - , and alarm/ignition input (optional).
Uses GPS and Sim card. You need to top the sim card up every 3 months @£5. So £30 per year after the first year including 24/7 tracking via the map.
Monitor on your PC, or via an app for your phone or tablet. This is very easy to use.
UK based helpline.

The downsides are that you have to monitor it yourself. Alerts and commands are via text. This is what will use your credit up. I doubt it will be recognised by insurance companies as it's self fitted.

Personally, when garaged I just leave it in sleep mode with all other functions switched off. It automatically wakes up when the bike starts moving to allow tracking. I don't have it set to alert me, my garage alarm will do that.

When out and about I have wired in a simple movement sensor connected to the trackers ignition input. Basically it detects when the bike is taken of its main stand and sends me a text giving it exact position along with a link to the map. You can also use its inbuilt movement sensor, Geo-fence etc.

Rewire sell them on ebay as well, where they are cheaper to buy.
You can get the same unit for half the price direct from China. No support though.

Also have BikeTrac fitted. In addition to what everyone else has said you can view past journeys and download them as gpx. Was very helpful for capturing some awesome roads in Spain!

Probably also helpful for the police to get a recording of all the times you break the speed limit as well.:blast

You can turn that setting off ;)

Not sure if anyone else follows this advice but I never bother with the steering lock. Takes ten seconds to break and it'll be me paying to fix it, not the insurance.

Two discs on the front, chain on the back and a tracker is good enough. When I get it back at least the steering lock won't be buggered too.

It is NOT a Home office Approved Speed detection Device and it does not have a valid calibration certificate so it cannot be used for prosecution purposes , same principal as the GPS tracking devices on emergency service vehicles

Good to know. I didn't ever bother turning the speed bit off, as if someone wanted to calculate it then it wouldn't be too hard as it shows distance and time still..

Also worth mentioning that BikeTrac is now a separate company and not part of the Road Angel group any more.

+ 1 on the BikeTrack.
IMO
Forgot to change setting on mine to service mode. Whilst in dealership talking to mechanic they rang me to say bike had been moved. Get 3 yrs subscription and pay monthly direct debit. Bike Trac is now owned by the guys who set it up orginally.

Had the speed issue checked by my lawyer even on continent and could not be used by police to prosecute as per above. Certified and valdated home office device ......

He did also say as I have chosen to notify your insurance company you have a tracker to get discount it can be used by insurance company in event of claim to reduce pay out. Their cirteria is more balance of probabilty test.

Forget BMW OEM alarm not Thatcham approved and wont get you discount on insurance. Nobody does anything when one goes off anyhow. Best chain, anchor and lock etc you can afford

I'm happy with my Tracker monitor, Subs £99 per year and I've saved more than that on my insurance through having it fitted. I was most impressed when I moved the bike no more than 2 feet in the garage and got a phone call enquiring if it was being stolen.

One other positive for the Bike-Track is It has a bike down mode.
If you are out on your own and end up in a hedge bottom it detects the bike being layed down and contacts a pre-set phone number so that they can see which hedge bottom you are in via the map.
Reassuring if you ride country lanes on your own late at night.

fatnfast - good work ! thanks for posting

Your welcome. No need to pay hundreds for a tracker unless you need it fitted for insurance purposes.

It has loads of features that match more expensive units if you want that sort of thing as well :-)

Go on the Biketrac Facebook page - frightening to see how many bikes are getting nicked! Their recovery rate seems quite high and quick.

If someone nicks my bike, they can keep it. No way I'd want it back.
