KTM website says the 1090 can be A2 licence legal

from the dark side this was sent

It's a pointless bike then

.....accept for those folk who do not want a 160bhp off road bike with all the bells and whistle. The 1090R is in effect a direct competitor to your AT

The 1090 S is circa £3k cheaper than the 1290 S so again looks like a bargain for those who want a simpler bike ;)

Just checked the Spec on the 1090 - same capacity, bore and stroke as the 1050 - but 25 more bhp.. Must be the ECU - wonder if I could get a 1090 map on the 1050?

Suspect it is more than just mapping - otherwise Geoff at Hilltop would be able to do it and not heard of him getting 25% extra out of a 1050 ;)

Except.................why would KTM make two mechanically different 1090's (a learner legal one and non learner legal one)? Surely it'd be far more cost effective to have the power limited electronically on the learner legal one?
I suppose the injectors may be different or a restriction in the air box/exhaust but that seems crude and unlikely?

..........on the 1090 that may be correct i.e just use electronics to reduce the power - like rain mode on an 1190 - but I doubt the 1050 engine set up (designed to make 94BHP) will be the same as the 1090 hence it being unlikely that you could swap the maps between them.

But then again stranger things have happened.

One thing for sure I am certain KTM would not encourage it as it would put Twizzle off from buying a new bike :D

The wings doesn't comply with any standards so technically not legal. They do seem to be well made and look good though.

They are superbly made and imho look a million times better than the monsters they produce for GS and KTMs.

Good point well made and we all know Twizz will end up buying an R eventually........................ :)

Might be down to throttle not opening fully? I know with the Super Tenere Hilltop could not alter the throttle maps so I had to look elsewhere to remove the restrictions in the first 3 gears, in this case CJS racing in Bristol could re-map the throttle and solved the problem - maybe they (or someone else) can do more with a 1050 if all it needs is some altering of the fly-by-wire.

If someone can open up the 1050's performance it would make it a more tempting bike - but is still limited to non adjustable budget suspension and I do not mean no EDS, I believe there is not any manual adjustment either - hope this is addressed on the new 1090.

I'm going to have a chat with the Race Mechanic at my KTM dealer, they have a Dyno - see if the 1090 mods can come over..

all the documented key elements are the same ...... Bore/Stroke/Capacity/Sprocket size... so the limitation can only be ECU/Throttle Bodies maybe??

if I could get my 1050 to 125bhp...that would probably do for me!! - Add an R screen - Wings exhaust and some Talon or Similar Spokes and off we go!

And some custom graphics to remove the horrible 1050 stickers....

I've been resisting a showroom visit.... but I have some bits and bobs on order which will mean I have to cross the sales floor.... it will be risky...
