You must be pissed sure it wasnt a 1050 you where riding and thats from someone who has owned 990/1190/1290 supeduke and now SA it a RocketWell having been to the East Mids meet this morning thought I would pop into Redline KTM to see just how different the 1290 motor feels compared to my weedy 1190
Went out on their 1290 SA and to be honest the motor if anything felt less powerful than mine
The 1290 only had 400 miles on it compared to mine with nearly 5,000 miles and with Arrow end can, KTM (DNA) air filter and has been sprinkled with Geoff's magic fairy dust but even so was surprised that the 1290 felt no more torquey either.
Also the extra bulk/weight definitely worked against the 1290.
Also disappointed that the semi active suspension felt no better than that on the 1190.
The good thing is that the illogical desire to swap my 1190 for the new 1290S has gone away - for now
PS - looks like KTM are about to bring in some more significant discounts on the 1050/1190's to clear stock - not sure if it will include the 1190R but something to keep an eye out for![]()

Weird..... I rode both the SA and SD last year and was mighty impressed with the power of both machines. In fact, when I rode my 1190 home, it felt like I was riding.....an Africa Twin.Granted, I only had a Wings fitted and no Hilltop magic, but it just felt so ordinary after both 1290's.
100% agree some people try to justify why there Bike is better, just be honest lads

..........anyway back on topic.
Noticed that the bike builder option is now working for the new 1290's and so ticked all the boxes
So you still get change (84p) from £18 grand![]()
There was talk bout KTM sticking on a 15% price increase due to Brexit but if they did they'd sell fuck all
If they can lob £3k off the price of a Super Duke SE it just goes to show how much wriggle room KTM have in their bikes

Look around Europe who all use the same currency (the €) you will see vastly different prices. When I bought my SA I could have saved several thousand buying in Spain. Where it would have cost more to buy it from Germany. They set the price per country and what it can afford. Rightly or wrongly rumour has it that the UK is heading for major financial difficulties so cheaper pricing might be in order to be able to sell stuff. There was talk bout KTM sticking on a 15% price increase due to Brexit but if they did they'd sell fuck all
