2017 KTM Adventure Range.

Black S for me with orange engine guards looks awesome !

I've seen the future....it has an R in it........

I have seen the future and it still has 990 in it until they come up with a better looking bike, just cant bring myself to own somthing as ugly as the new ones :-)

I do need to see that headlight in the flesh so to speak..

Thank F#cK for that!

Well having been to the East Mids meet this morning thought I would pop into Redline KTM to see just how different the 1290 motor feels compared to my weedy 1190 :augie

Went out on their 1290 SA and to be honest the motor if anything felt less powerful than mine

The 1290 only had 400 miles on it compared to mine with nearly 5,000 miles and with Arrow end can, KTM (DNA) air filter and has been sprinkled with Geoff's magic fairy dust but even so was surprised that the 1290 felt no more torquey either.

Also the extra bulk/weight definitely worked against the 1290.

Also disappointed that the semi active suspension felt no better than that on the 1190.

The good thing is that the illogical desire to swap my 1190 for the new 1290S has gone away - for now :D

PS - looks like KTM are about to bring in some more significant discounts on the 1050/1190's to clear stock - not sure if it will include the 1190R but something to keep an eye out for ;)

................................

That's interesting and in a way I'm glad to hear it for all the same reasons as you :)

I'm surprised though..............I've not ridden a 'detuned' 1290 (the SA) but have riden Melch's 1290SD quite a bit and my impression was that it just pulled with massive smooth torque right off tickover with none of the step at 6k like ours; it was like the 'step' was at 300rpm and then there was just this massive rush all the way to the little flashing red light. In fact, some of the group we were with rode mine first coming off slightly shaken at the midrange/top end rush and were initially nervous about riding the SD thinking it would be even more so. The general consensus was that it didn't feel as 'hairy' as my 1190 and that the power delivery was easier/smoother............and that's what I'd expected the 1290SA to be like :nenau

Anyway, I've decide that I'm rather fond of my 6k kick in the pants and wouldn't want it any other way!

Soooooo................Twizz.................I hope you noted Paul's comments about upcoming bargains! :D

The SA I rode was decidedly more grunty than my stock motored 1190. It only had 300 miles on it too.

Management permission granted- so run out 1190 or wait........

The salesman at Redline was not in the least surprised when I said there was little difference between the 2 :augie

I guess Geoff's fairy dust must be working :D

Weird..... I rode both the SA and SD last year and was mighty impressed with the power of both machines. In fact, when I rode my 1190 home, it felt like I was riding.....an Africa Twin. :P Granted, I only had a Wings fitted and no Hilltop magic, but it just felt so ordinary after both 1290's.

Decided...if I'm committing, I'm going 1290R - will wait till the NEC for a sit and look see then start discussions.....

But I may drop by my local dealer tomorrow and see what bargains are to be had.....:augie
