2018 KTM 790 Adventure

Just like you’re avoiding my comment about selling your other bikes. Why do you need the other bikes now? Genuine question.

I don’t need 7 bikes but I choose to have them as bikes are my passion .

I had one bike for many years-my KTM 950 Super Enduro which went all over Europe , but a bike that you wouldn’t deem suitable

It was a straight forward question about 1290 v 790 so don’t see why you can’t answer it , so assume you don’t actually have an answer !!

I think the R looks really lovey, the S looks drab, the low front mudguard makes the headlight look very strange from the side and the black frame does not look the same stand out quality as the orange R.

Enjoy your new bikes folks

Can you honestly not see the irony in your posts? :blast

I own a 1290 as I want the power of a 1290. I want the adrenaline rush that the 1290 gives me. I want an only bike that I can ride on any road, in supreme comfort, and do it with a huge grin on my face. I want the noise that the 1290 has. The torque. The fact that it’s bat shit crazy, and is the only bike I’ve owned that makes me laugh my head off, EVERY time I ride it. Do I need to go on?

And yes, I have ridden a 790, and as nice as it was, I’d take my 1290 over it, every day of the week. Before ordering my latest bike, I test rode a number of bikes, and the 1290 was the best bike, for me. But we’re all different, and I’m not taking anything away from the 790, it’s a cracking bike. But not for me.

Fair enough.

If it’s all about power, then the 1290 is the one to have.
We’re all different . I sold my 1290 as I prefer a bike that is slightly more rounded. The 1290 was indeed batshit crazy but, for me, the motor overrides everything else.

You ask why I need more than one bike-if I want an adrenaline rush then I’ll take the H2 SX away on a trip , a bike that’ll leave the 1290 for dead.

I’ve had ‘adventure’ bikes for 25 years and I now prefer more rounded bikes. The ATAS is one and I think the 790 will be even better -you should try one. It’s much better than the Duke you rode.

You won’t get the adrenaline rush but it’s bloody fast, can come with heated grips, cruise, 280 mile range etc etc and won’t put your back out wheeling in and out the garage.

No good for Iceland though, eh Tim :-0

Sounds the perfect Bike for Iceland

Only two more sleeps.

I can't see the 790R replacing the 1290S. But if it's as good as suggested I guess we'll see. I can't see me throwing the lovely lady on the back of the 790 instead of the 1290 for a trip. If it was one bike only choice, it would have to be the 1290. As I say, we'll see, maybe after the new bike euphoria dies down.

I’ll certainly admit that I don’t think the 790R is designed as a comfy two-up bike, though my g/f said it was just fine on the back. Not sure how it would be on a long ride though.

You're right Byron, for this trip it'll be a good bike :)

Is Byron taking his on your trip ? if so,make sure you pinch it for a ride-would be interesting to hear what someone with your experience thinks of it.

The power of a Super Enduro with the flickability of a 640/690....

Yes, pinch Byron’s. Toddy already has his eye on mine.

lift mine today. 790 for me is for a run out solo with a bit of firebreaks, lanes etc through in to the ride and i think the bike will excel and be a lot of fun !
still have the 1200 rallye which will still be used on long road trips, 2 up riding and hopefully very little else if the ktm lives up to the hype.

Err... I don’t have a 701. I ordered a 790R and you said you were having a borrow.

I ordered a slip on exhaust so that I could remove it when you ride so that it sounds like your CCM.

I rode Byron’s 701 and needed convenient garden wall to get on.

Okay.....here we go round the insurance merry-go-round!! :blast

So far £363 fully comp 1 years no claims. Same as the 1290!

This is one issue with buying a new model that nobody lists yet.
