...you live by some great coast line, its the thing that's missing from my life
The KTM after-market pegs are very stable but I’m going to get some bar risers as I’m 6’1” and could do with the bars a tad higher when standing up.
Sorry to go off on a tangent here, but I don't get how being tall affects peg to bar comfort?
If you stand a tall person and a short person next to each other with their arms by their side, their hands will be at nearly exactly the same height.
Anyway, there's probably more to it than that, so sorry again about the tangent. carry on.
ps. Nice bike. Enjoy![]()

Less is definitely more, not that Nutty will ever get it !!

I get it alright, but wouldn't want one as an only bike, as I do big trips.
Would you have it as an only bike? With those tyres?![]()
Absolutely !!! And Pirelli Rally STRs are brilliant. That’s why I have them on my ATAS too .
I’ve done big trips for years on Conti TA2s and these are better . What’s your issue ? Apart from ignorance?
What’s wrong with a 790 as only bike ? Bigger range than yours ! Similar comfort , similar screen , seeing as you fitted a small screen etc etc

Time will tell![]()

Very comprehensive review. Care to expand?I was looking at both models today and the road biased version looks.....stupid.![]()
So....I rode again today, and again two-up. The bike feels much lighter than the 1290,even with a pillion.
So when I went for a quick spin solo,it was a revelation.
Did a few short tracks -we don’t have many here and it was so easy to control. The KTM after-market pegs are very stable but I’m going to get some bar risers as I’m 6’1” and could do with the bars a tad higher when standing up.
The bike feels much faster than the 790 Duke, even though it can’t be .The fuelling is much better though.
The riding position is spot on and the firm seat is just right, again that’s a personal thing.
For me,and its my opinion , but having only ridden 40 miles, its in a different league to the 1290R.So much more flickable.Feels much nicer in most scenarios.
Obviously the 1290 will kill it in outright acceleration but that’s not what I’m looking for in this kind of bike. One of the reasons I bought the ATAS.
Less is definitely more, not that Nutty will ever get it !!

Well it won’t as I won’t be going down to just one bike . You should put the blinkers away !
With your bad back I would have thought the 790 wound be better than the new 1290 you just bought . Much easier to push around , lighter to ride , all the benefits really, apart from needing the kudos of owning a 160bhp bike !
But I could expand on the mild inconvenience of having a puncture with tubes compared to tubeless when it could be a show stopper....unless your carrying ....tubes

Yawn![]()
You could and it would be a riveting read, but what relevance would it have when the 790s are tubeless !
Because Tim C made the reference which suggests to some that Tubeless = no problems and that's most definitely not the case![]()
Whereas to most others ,tubes are a pain, hence many converting adventure bikes to tubeless .

Nutty, explain why the 1290 is ok for you as an only bike yet you dismiss the 790. I’m curious ? Are you that hung up on having the heaviest with most power ?

I think you're deliberately missing the point, remember most 'adventure bikes' follow the fashion and aren't ridden hard off road![]()
