A bit further down is Oradour sur Glane which is definitely worth a visit if you can find a hotel or BNB around there

To answer my own question yes it's worth 2 nights/1 full day.
Best Western Centre Le Grand Hotel is very well locatedcm and has an underground car park but you must book parking (at 8 Euros per night) in advance, DAMHIK
There is free parking in a municipal car park next door though that I am assured is staffed and monitored by video camera 24 hours per day (& free for bikes). We'll see.

Took advantage of the cooler morning and got an early start from Chartres. 
I planned to stop for lunch in Saint Aignan but I ended up an hour early and kept going. Found a great little ‘biker’ bistrot in Châtillon-sur-Indre instead.
