2024 Himalayan 450

I see a potential issue with simply extending the side stand to allow the bike to rest more upright, in that it appears to be fitted at quite an angle and would need considerable length added to make much difference. Looks like what it requires is to be mure vertical.

I've not seen one. I'm just going by the pictures.

It is a no doubt a great motorcycle, for the price one would pay, journalist and influencers seem to sing equally great songs about it too...

However, this is just my opinion and I stick with it. Spanish trip in 2021 (Paul on 1250 GSA ad Jerry on 1200 GS) I could see Jerry indicating whilst applying brakes, I could only see brake lights on Paul' bike. until I got far to close to see him actually having hazard lights on.

The picture above with the left indicator on (albeit much larger cluster overall compared to BMW offering), doesn't seem to have the brake light on at same time (comparing to light output intensity and reflection between the two photographs), just the tail/running light. At that stage, the indicator is visible, sort of. But I doubt it is visible when you would follow somebody who is say 50-100m up ahead and has first applied the brake ( as most bods do, despite Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre, Brake being the preached mantra) then indicated to go left or right. Suddenly, the bike came to a complete halt, if turning right and there is an oncoming traffic, preventing bod from completing his turn. By that time it is to late, as you are ploughing into the back of the bike/bod.

All this cramming of LED chips into the tiniest of clusters, seem to be the norm nowadays and manufacturers seem to compete with each other, as to who can make it even smaller.
I personally do not think it is safe in a real world scenarios.
It is all very well vehicle passing a type approval in a sterile room full of blokes wearing white overcoats and ticking boxes on the tablets. But in the rain, (spray) situations or bright sunlight, I wouldn't feel overly safe traveling (globetrotting) on one of these bikes.

Popped in to local RE dealer to show them a minor paint blemish on the Shotgun. They’re going to sort it out.
Took the Himmy demo out again.

Tried the lights just for Ev

Then took the it out again for a 45 minute blat.
Caned the fuck out of it around all the lanes.
It certainly goes when you rev it up to 8k but happy to ride the midrange too.
Handling was fabulous. And that’s on CEAT tyres. I bet it’s even better on Pirelli Scorpion STRs.

The seat was still on high setting .
It’s easy to change.
Just undo pillion seat with key then the rider seat lifts off.
It only engages at the front in a pair of hooks. The back is held in place by the pillion pad being locked above it, if that makes sense.

You can adjust both front and back of seat up,or down so can change rake as well as height.

Have my thoughts changed from first ride ?
It’s actually even better than I thought. Caning the fuck out of it on bumpy lanes was great fun.It would be a hoot in Brittany and beyond.
The suspension is great and I noticed the shock was set about half way so I could up the preload.

I don’t really see an issue with the side stand/lean.

Yes, it leans a tad more than some bikes but better that than not enough. This was today, parked on the flat :

What would I change/fit ?

Very little , I think.
Navigation is sorted with the Google Maps/ Tripper though I’d probably use my phone with Peak Design mount and run MRA.I forgot to look for the USB port but I’ve got a Healteck Thunderbox so would mount that and run the heated grips and Optimate charger etc:

Heated grips are a must-the standard Oxford Adventure jobbies would be fine

Luggage-wise, I think I’d just bungee one of my Enduristan roll bags to the rack/pillion seat and possibly get some waterproof bags to mount on the front bars.

Any issues/faults ?

The switchgear feels a bit cheap.
The indicator icon on the TFT is tiny and easy to miss.

Deal breaker ? Nope. Deal brokered

Many thanks for the report Richard and Arsey also. You confirm most of the impressions I got from my much shorter ride.

If I can get delivery before the second week in June before I go to Germany, I'll be ordering this week.👍
From Saltire?

You are stood 2m away :blast. :D Aswell as previously mentioned, in normal daytime light conditions, these lights are seen, but hardly burning my retinas out.

Now find a rock heavy enough to hold rear brake on and turn hazard light on, then walk back say a minimum 2 car lengths back (a safe following distance)and take a picture. Then walk back say 5-6 car lengths and take another. I guarantee you, that you will not see the indicators with pretend bod sat stationary atop of the motorcycle, whilst indicating and simultaneously covering the rear brake (as I was taught by my DVSA approved instructor)

Many of the RE designers/engineers are ex Triumph.
I can see where you’re coming from (unless you brake suddenly ) but it really isn’t an issue for me.
They must have done proper testing and decided it’s ok.
Plus I wouldn’t be riding it around the M25 so unlikely to get t-boned by a blind fucker

That is true, not least as I didn’t really look at where the stand retracted to, when it’s not extended.

It might just be something you (or more likely, me) gets used to.

So you’ve ordered one ?

Ev,

You could screw this to your helmet and power off USB ?

I really like the idea of them, but they are a bit heavy for my use.

I was thinking more like a flashing beacon, alas

... but 1290 will keep me going for a few more years to come, brrrm, brrrm :thumb

Re the side stand, it's a casting and a lot of thought must have gone into the design and manufacture of it, ( it's not just a straight piece of tube) to make it strong enough to support the bike, if it was made any longer it would be fouling the centre stand, not as simple as just fastening a hockey putt to it.
The stand foot is only about 30mm wide by 75mm long, definitely need a side stand plate on soft grass.

But the side stand plate will help with the angle . Got one on my Tracer GT+ and it’s almost too upright now !

There is no room to fit a plate, side stand nearly hits the centre stand when both are up.
Side stand is a work of art, for just holding a bike up, have a look at the casting, it would not be out of place on a plane :D.
Have a look at one, see what you think, may be it's just me.

I agree . It looks fine to me . I’ve ordered one and it comes with a free bike
