2024 Himalayan 450

For those looking to fit Barkbusters with mounting frames. eBay have a 15% deal today. STEER15 is the code.

That's the Barkbusters fitted. A bit of a faff due mainly to the front brake hydraulics. I removed all of that (2x 8mm bolts) and fitted the alu bars loosely. To get enough clearance for the hydraulics the bar weight had to be fitted outside the alu bar. It's a tight squeeze for the brake lever but there's just enough clearance. Just.

I installed mine on the outside of the bar end weights as per instructions and then plenty of clearance.

My 450 Barkbuster guards arrived today….. completely devoid of any instructions.

Being a selfhelp, rugged, Adventure (with a capital A) kind of a guy, I found them on something called Google.

Though I must say, this was helpful (in a jaunty Bollywood way) too….

Everyone sing along…..

To assist Posh Pete and anyone else, here is the right hand (throttle side) complete.

Note:

A. There might be very little room around the brake pipe / banjo bolt. I had to do a fair amount of jiggling to get the Barkbuster handlebar clamp into near enough the right position.

B. At the bar weight end, there is a fair old gap, which has to be closed by tightening-up with the bolt. I put a bit of copper slip onto the bolt’s thread to encourage the thread to bite.

Be careful not to over tighten and restrict the free movement of the throttle.

C. Put the plastic hand guards onto the aluminium carrier, before assembly. It is then much easier to tighten the two internal retaining screws. I forgot to do this! I then took the carrier off again.

I had to do a fair amount of jiggling ...
You can truthfully tell all and sundry that you've become a jiggle-o! :D

I'll get my coat!

That is weird! The gap betwixt alloy guard and lever is huge compared to mine! I'll need to take another look!

It just takes you to join a Facebook group
Wherein may be found a Kamet white with lots of extras and only 1k miles or so for a grand off the dealer price.

Feck sake Martin! You can navigate an Airbus to Seattle! Surely you can manage a FB page? :augie

Edit: OK, if one is not on FB, you may need to sign up and join the group ...

The bolt that hold the cross bar to the mount on the handle bars is very close to the banjo bolt on my bike. Any closer and I’d had to have moved the banjo bolt a bit.

The gap at the bar weight end on the throttle side starts as pretty signifiant, much wider than one might expect, wider than the clutch side. In part this might be due to the closeness of the banjo bolt, restricting some movement.

The action of tightening the bolts, literally pulls the whole lot together under some degree of tension. There was a significant ‘ping’ when I took the bar guard support off again, to put the hand guard on.

The right hand as a whole, did take a bit of persuasion to get it just about right. I tightened and then loosened the bolts a few times, before I was reasonably happy.

I put a little bit of Ducktape around the support bar, simply to give the guard a better fit:
