2025 KTM 390 Adventure

Really like the look of these but can’t really see the point when it’s c.15kgs heavier with less power and physically smaller than my 690.
What have I missed?

Yep, all valid points. I doubt I would change a 690 for one of these and think the suspension on the 690 is better. I want an ADV bike that I can keep learning off-road techniques on and I like the idea of it being phsyically smaller (I couldnt confidently do elephant turns on my Tiger as it was just too top heavy). This bike is £6,700 new, with a decent fairing and a few creature comforts (such as cruise once added). I want to be able to ride 100/200 miles to a day on the trails and then back again and whilst the 690/701 will do that especially if it has a Rade Garage tower or similar I really like the adventure bike concept and design of the 390. Whether the vibes are too much for long distances remains to be seen.

Im prepared to hate it and sell it on if I don't gel with it, and suspect I won't lose a huge amount as they arent bringing many in this year. I love the idea of 74bhp on the 690 but if I'm honest I really dont need that. Riding with capable guys on Himalayans on byways has made me think about what I really want.

So if anyone wants a 390 Adventure R later this year, just let me know and it might get flipped shortly after I get it :D.

The Kove Rally 450 is another bike that brings similar capabilities, and the quality seems to be pretty damned good given the reports.

We all want different things from bikes I guess. My 300 Rally is, for me, kinda perfect. It's docile, easy to ride and very capable in terms of trail riding. You ride motorways and open roads to trails perfectly well. The range is ridiculous. It's weakness is also it's strength - could use more horses. However, giving the beans to a lower power bike is a right laugh. There have been a few times (only a few mind) where tractoring out of a situation has been a close call. However, I haven't once NOT got out...it just would've been easier with a little more power. Like thousands of other blokes, I don't want the high power enduro type bike that needs a ton of work to turn into a small adv bike. I think this bike ought to hit a sweet spot, for me at least. Not too heavy to pick up, decent power and because it's a KTM it'll deffo work off-road whilst it certainly looks like it'll be a decent fun road bike as well. So many people are fixated on weight. The trails I ride I can ride on the Honda and it's not so light. With weight comes a degree of comfort. There's Ying an Yang to everything.

Not yet. We'll see if the chart above is accurate.

Sadly it looks like the above chart is not accurate. No comms from the dealer and radio silence from KTM other than publishing the above chart which is now out of date.

I'm hoping it's still coming this year, but have nothing to go on as to whether that will happen or not. I understand some bikes have been delivered to Romania dealers but the bikes are software locked and can't be activated, so maybe there are issues for the EU bikes hence the delay ?

I just read on FB that one guy has been told November for Germany. I'm not in a rush, but I have to say I'm starting to lose interest TBH. Lots of side stand and stalling complaints in the US but there are workarounds coming online. Buying a first batch KTM is always a bit of a trial.

Latest rumour is the first batch of bikes are starting to arrive in then UK but will be withheld until they are mapped with the latest software update and for a sidestand fix to fix the two pronounced issues.

This aligns with the latest Big Rock Moto update which is below.
KTM 390 ADV R ownership updates 7.28.2025. All of this will be in my next YouTube episode.
-Visited my KTM dealer on July 25th. They re-programmed the ECU with an update from KTM designed to improve low speed fueling/stalling. This helped dramatically. The bike runs way better.
-They also installed (software unlocked and calibrated) the OEM quickshifter. It works really, really well. Costs for this (MSRP) is $275 plus any labor your dealer might charge. Still no word from KTM on cruise control availability.
-I changed the oil at 300 miles, it came out extremely dirty and burnt looking. Do not recommend waiting until 600 miles.
-This week, I am installing a pre-production skid plate (and foot pegs) from Black Dog Cycle Works (made in the USA). Stock skid plate gives little confidence in rocks.
-I ordered the PowerTronic Fuel X Pro+, it arrives this week and I will test it out (we’ll see if it is even needed since the dealer ECU re-flash)
-Changed to the Motoz Outback/Euro 6 tires for off road use.
The 390 continues to impress me. More updates soon.

I guess if they're mapping bikes anywhere then the map is available. Should it have needed mapping? Answers on a postcard :D

The side stand switch can be deleted for me....not bothered. But the fact that it hits your boot will irritate. Be good if they can sort that too.

I wish this guy would stop waving his arms around when he presents. Struggle to watch it. Like a two legged octopus trying to catch a fish.

I've been told that the first bikes for UK leave Austria today and collection around the 9th Sept. Hope it's worth the wait. :D

I hope they've fixed the side stand and stalling issues. But it's a KTM, so we expect something with early bikes until they fix stuff.

I thought the 2025 390 Adventure R is made in India, not Mattighofen Austria ?

Good news, it looks like mine will arrive towards the end of this week so I should be able to pick up next weekend. Time to get some tyres ordered and start investigating if there are quality bashplates and handguards on the market yet (stock handguards and bashplate fall into the chocolate teapot category).

I will also want to get the quickshifter and cruise ordered but suspect that will be on first service if they can get the parts.

For tyres I think I'm going to get a set of Mitas enduro trail XT+ as they worked quite well on my tiger. Its a lighter bike though, so wondering if Michelin Trackers would be better.

Thats odd. I was second in with deposit, so on this basis they ought to have already had bikes. I've emailed.

Have you heard from the dealer @Apex ?

Mine arrived at the dealers today, but they can't release it until a recall for the side stand spring is sorted. They've ordered that so with a following wind that should be there later this week.
