2025 KTM 390 Adventure

New throttle assembly on order, I'm 100% confident this will. fix the issue. (y)

Interesting take from Llewelyn and I tend to agree with most of what he says. Stay with it as it's a little harsh and frank at the start.

Finally got it back. Throttle assembly replaced and all seems fine. (y)

Trying my camping setup, I've never 'motocamped' but an opportunity has arisen for a couple of days lanes riding in the Peaks so seems like a low risk way to try it out. I purchased the tent when I had my previous Tiger 900 where weight wasn't really an issue, so I'd really like to get a smaller and lighter tent (the one on it is a Berghaus Cairngorm 3 man tent which is lovely, but a bit big).

Post ABR minor update...

I've changed the KTM satnav mount to be a NiceCNC (Chinese) mount as it's a little higher so I can mount my Samsung Active Tab 2 on it. Slightly unsure of having that weight up high, bit will give it a go, and good for roadbooking if I do some more Rallymoto events. I previously had the phone where the satnav is, although I've ruined the phones autofocus now due to vibrations (I do have the quadlock vibration mount, but couldn't use it with the phone in this position, it's now back on the mount with it mounted on the handlebars).

I've also used the ACC2 switched live connector under the right hand side of the fairing to add a couple of USB ports, and run a cable from that to the relocated quadlock on the handlebars.

I'm going laning in the Peaks tomorrow, be good to have a big OS maps view ahead of me.

I have never motocamped, but a really simple option arose of camping in Derbyshire with some trail riding thrown in. Bikes ready.

Now we are 6000 miles in so it's time for some care. Service booked in, new Mitas XT Enduro Trail T+ tyres ordered, cruise control ordered and some shiny stuff arrived to fit on the bike in the form of the WP Xplor Pro 6746 rear shock and additional spring.

I did procrastinate about putting this much money into the bike (the £500 voucher from KTM softened it) but at the moment I can't think of anything I would rather have bike wise, so it gets a bit of money spent on it whilst I'm still under the false illusion that it will do everything as my unicorn bike. I'm enjoying the 65mpg !

It will also get its first decent long trip in a few weeks doing a Scottish highlands lap. The first leg taking a day to get to Inverness from Nottingham via Braemar (about 470 miles) which will give it a good test of its touring potential.

WP Xplor Pro shock finally fitted with a spring better suited to my weight. It's not a cheap mod but it makes a huge difference :tarka.

The front flightiness during acceleration has gone, it manages the weight transfer under acceleration much better than the Apex shock. I did a few byways, and on the first test on stock settings I can sustain a higher speed with this as it allows you to keep the power on whereas on the stock one you had to wait a little for it to catch up.

Highly recommend JDL Suspension Services in Bingham if you are nearby. I would have had a go putting the shock on myself but needed the spring changing as well which I didn't want to attempt. Also, after talking to JDL I have built more confidence in getting them to do the fork cartridge change once I've got hold of those.

I've also changed the front and rear brake pads. They have an interesting 'Bybre' design, as there is only a piston one side. You can start to see where some of the weight/cost saving is which I'm not criticising as the brake performance is adequate.

Front suspension next !

Next upgrade ordered, along with springs (WP Xplor Pro). I've been so impressed by the shock and being sprung to my weight that I've been motivated to get the front done as well. Should be here in a few days and will get a local suspensions specialist previously mentioned to fit them. This makes no financial sense at all, but since when did bikes make financial sense.

Go on -how much for that lot ?

£2500
Fitted

Not far off, parts £1950, although less £500 voucher from KTM + £250 fitting so all in about £1700. I'll never get that back, but it will be closer to a 'unicorn' bike and much more fun with the mods. In theory the shock and cartridges would sell pretty easily separately if I sold the bike.

I'm also getting cruise control fitted next week when its serviced, but that's it, nothing else will be spent other than servicing unless the Rally Raid tubeless wheels tempt me.

Although I have just seen a very nice KTM 990 Adventure from 2008 that would make a nice stablemate for the 390.
