21 valves replaced during service

I've just had a 33K dealer service on my seven year old 1200GS at a cost of £680 which included two Tourance Next tyres. I'm still trying to come to terms with the cost and part of the therapy will include understanding what the hell I've paid for. Apart from the labour cost, tyres and oil are a major part of the bill but there are also 21 valves at £2.79 each plus vat (part number 36317653064). Can anyone advise me on what valves are for as 21 strikes me as being rather a lot and I'm still struggling to understand why it's an odd number.

I just googled and it comes out as a 15mm valve stem. Like the things you have one of on each wheel... to allow you to put air into your tyres?

it appears to be the part number for the tyre valve. how many spare wheels do you have?

I would suggest that as you had 2 new tyres and not 21, that they owe you 19 x £2.79 + VAT.

I make that £63.61

Yes, it looks like I've unintentionally been turned over by a dealership. Instead of 2, they typed 21 which increased my bill by around 57 quid. I'll check that they've not put the other 19 tyre valves under my seat but bloody hell, what a mistake. I'm looking forward to making them squirm tomorrow.

BUT It was probably a genuine mistake from some one who's up to their eyes dealing with many facets of a dealership !

Sure Cut them some slack Give them a phone and just ask them to check invoice number ??????? and would they refund your card for 19 valves asap

Oh we had a good laugh about it.

It's a typo on the bill.

A very good point but my mind's always in a different place when I pick up the bill after a service at a main dealer. Where will I get the second mortgage? How much for my wife's kidney on the organ black market?

is it just me or are bm dealer invioces very very difficult to decipher,ie work out what the parts and labour actually cost for every replacemnt/service job?

Yes New bikes, Dealer servicing, etc etc all adds up to a significant amount of shekels in anyones book
