Dealer mileage during service

Some years ago I helped deal with the aftermath of a fatal bike accident in The Hyde Park underpass; when the local officers went to speak to the next-of-kin, they were met by the registered keeper. The victim was a motorcycle mechanic from the dealer on the south coast where the bike was having its brakes sorted 🥴

What could be a possibility is as I had 2 bikes in at the same time and they could have taken my s1000r out on a long test ride instead of my GS ? Long shot I know !
My concern is they've let a potential purchaser take it out on a test ride! It's also had petrol put in which I find a bit suspect.
no shop i have worked in would ever do that ...way too risky

Have a look around the number plate area to see if there are any marks from a trade plate being fitted.

I'd simply ask them why did the bike do c.50miles - could be a genuine reason (equally it may not be). then decide if you're suitably peev'd.

I had an issue with parking sensors on my car that was intermittent and the service manager told me he was taking the car home to see if he could recreate the fault as it occurred sometimes in traffic and sometimes when parking at home. He told me after it was fixed.

Barry .

Permission should have been sought prior to the Service Manager taking the car home. When I was in the motor trade I would occasionally be given a customer's car to drive home if it was a time related fault as I lived the furthest away !

I had my 1300 collected for the adaptive ride height issue to be looked at for the 3rd time,my s1000r was due it's 600 mile service so they collected that too cut a long story short after having the bikes from Weds pm to the following Tues am I noticed on Sat my s1000r gad done 50 miles wtf !!! Why would they need to do 50 miles, anyone else had this happen, nothing to do with the 1300 I know.
How about: We're having a lot of trouble reproducing this adaptive ride height issue the customer is complaining about, so <technician>, can you take it out for a ride and don't come back unless you can get it to happen?

Just be direct. Call the service manager, tell him you've logged 50 miles as having been ridden since dropping the bike in and collecting and ask why. I had this happen once, some years back and when I asked why roughly similar miles had been racked up after a simple service, the answer was that they wanted to check everything was as it should be. There was no good reason for them to do that as the bike was mechanically A1 and I told them that, so demanded a proper explanation. 5 miles or so would have told them what they needed to know, but 48 odd was a sign someone had had a jolly and I made my point clear. I also never used them again and told them that if they couldn't be trusted with small things, then I was not going to trust them with major servicing and would take it somewhere else which is what I did. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation, but you ought to have been told after the bike was serviced. The fact that they said nothing would tell me that it's more likely there isn't a reasonable explanation unless the message didn't get through to you.

Except it was the S1000R that had the 50 plus miles on it and not the 1300GS unless the OP has got his wires crossed and it was the GS that had the extra 50plus miles on the odometer ?

Yes maybe I shouldn't have posted this on here it was my s1000r that had done the 50 miles. My GS had done 11miles presumably road testing the adaptive ride height issue

I find it hard to believe too ,I'll see what they have to say tomorrow.
What did they say?. I've ordered a new bike from Vertu & just beginning to wonder if they are a good choice???.

It's not uncommon to do an extended test ride to see if the problem is actually there. Especially after multiple dealer visits.

7/10 customer complaints are imaginary.

A salesperson took my bike home on Friday and Saturday by mistake instead of the identical demo bike, plus 5 miles was on road test.
Allegedly....
I have been compensated to my satisfaction.
Still not happy though to be honest but what else can I do,I've accepted the apology, time to move on.
I've gone over the bike with a fine tooth comb inc the tyres ,no sign of any damage or wear.

Nothing wrong with mys1000r,the GS which problem was NOT imaginary had completed 11 miles which is fair enough .
