I could probably find the answer if i looked hard enough, but thought i'd ask anyway....

1150 Gs now has 23.500 miles, and approx 2k ago had the throttle bodies balanced and the valves done... apart from this and obviously oil and filter changes and general stuff, what makes the 24k service a 'biggie' as i've heard mention on the forums ?

Is there anything that needs doing to prevent the old girl falling to bits?

You would probably gather i would rather avoid main dealer servicing if i can.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers and a happy new year to you all...:beerjug:

Yep - fuel filter time.

Although the recommended service interval for the alternator belt is 36k, I now change mine every 24k - I had one go at 38k and someone (Pint6X?) had one go at 34k. I'm assuming you're already planning to do gearbox & final drive oils (don't forget to renew crush washers ;))...

Mike:)

ps The service schedule appears in your handbook (the Service History part), IIRC...

you'll also need the complete brake fluid system bleeding through, as well as the clutch fluid.

Thanks all for replies... Already got mobil 1 in final drive, fuel filter was replaced when i changed the tank not so long back, Looks like I'll be mostly doing a brake and clutch bleed then....

.... and the gearbox oil....I'll look at the alternator belt soon....:D Bryn

I qoute haynes

Major service every 12000 miles
Change the gearbox oil
Change the final drive oil
Check the tightness of intake manifold clamps
Replace Airfilter
Adjust alternator drive belt(non maintenance free belts)
Change the brake fluid
Check the operation of the brakes and for fluid leakage
Check the battery
Check the wheels and wheel bearings
Grease the windshield height adjuster:o

Every 24000 Miles
Replace the fuel filter
Replace the alternator drive belt (non maintenance free belts)

36000 Miles
Replace alternator drive belt (maintenance free belts.

This is primarily for the 850, 1100 etc but the 1150 would fall in the same category.

Enjoy :thumb

I had the 24K done by Motorrad Central for no cost to myself as a condition of the purchase/BMW extended warranty for my 1100. When I looked at the workshop invoice the service would have cost me nearly £500 including front brake pads. Ouch! :D
