What does the 24k 1200GS service cost?

I have been quoted between £220 and £350 - this seems to be a large variation. Does the quoted service cost normally include parts or just the labour?

The engine and gearbox oil will have to be changed, plugs will need replacing, the brake fluid changing, the valve clearances checked/adjusted, throttles synced, new air filter + all the other little bits. The bike is non-abs.

Anyone else had this done? Do they dismantle and clean the brake calipers?

That sort of variation is not unknown. Hourly labour rates vary widely across the country.

The higher price might include an annual service as this generally costs in the region of £100. Some dealers automatically assume you want this done with every service, which is a bit naughty really.

Didn't one of the blokes from DiRE magazine ride over to Berlin to where his GS was made for his 24k service? Although it was a hell of a lot of riding, I seem to remember it didn't cost him that much more...

<fx: Goes digging for the article>

just had mine done (24k and 2 year service) £280 plus some bits - Cardiff Independent Motorrad

After a series of £200 services, I was rather surpised that the 24k cost over £300 for me. But it did include the annual inpsection and full brake service etc. etc.

I thought the annual inspection was only if you hadn't reached the required mileage? If you have a 24K service are they telling you they don't check things that they check on an annual? Seems to me someone is being ripped off! Mines due in 1000m time and the 18000 was only done 3 months ago so if they try and charge me for an annual inspection as well I think we will be having a row.

Annual

I have been lead to believe that the annual is only if you haven`t reached mileage but it`s worth checking with the dealer before he gets his grubby mitts on it.

I have 4 services a year so my dealer may think twice about trying to charge me.....:thumb

Reference prices, there seems to be a wide variation of hourly rates but I can recommend Clarke`s in Brum who do a great job at a sensible price! (No I don`t work for them).
